Production Process Engineer

Position Description

• Production Process Engineer
• This position is located in Henderson, NV (Las Vegas Area)

Primary Function

• Responsible for providing technical support and leading continuous improvement activities in both the Magnesium Recovery and Chlorination Departments through identification of project and process improvements, develop training and team support programs, and providing leadership and guidance for quality, production, and safety initiatives.

Position Responsibilities And Specific Duties

• The Production Engineer works with management, production, and maintenance staff to design, develop, and implement continuous process improvement initiatives to maximize operational efficiency while reducing costs.

Essential:

• Assist Sponge Plant Management with day-to-day operations.
• Develop administration, management, and technical skills.
• Perform process engineering duties as needed.
• Identify, recommend, and test process and operation enhancements and improvements.
• Provide engineering support for projects and conduct controlled experiments.
• Prepare process scope for significant process changes and participate on the Capital project installation and implementation teams.
• Maintain and revise process safety information.
• Execute/participate in continuous improvement projects based on Six Sigma and Lean tools.
• Provide data collection and analysis and generate informative reports.

Other:

• Write and/or revise SOP’s
• Revise and maintain P&IDs.
• Participate in and/or lead continuous improvement projects
• Conduct routine and specialized training sessions and programs.
• Maintain existing databases and operation files.
• Assist in development of recipes in SAP for Magnesium, Chlorine, and TiCl4 production and assist in troubleshooting product costs via SAP.
• Participate in HAZOP/PHAs as needed.
• Assist in development of operational department training materials as needed. 
• The Senior Production Engineer must be an effective communicator from the operator to manager level as well as a multi-tasking individual to prioritize the multiple and conflicting projects to be addressed.  This role requires an individual with advanced technical skills to facilitate the project prioritization as well as the development of the optimum solution given the equipment at hand, equipment availability, and available resources.

• Advanced communications skills, both written and oral.
• Advanced interpersonal skills.
• Process control experience is required.
• Good logical problem solving and analytical skills.
• Advanced computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, project management, and database management software.
• Must be a self-starter and require minimal supervision.
• Operational experience is also desired.

Experience & Education Minimum: 

• BS in engineering with 5-7 years’ experience as a process engineer in a Heavy Industry, Chemical Plant, or Mining Operation.  High level of skill with computer programs especially Outlook, Access and Excel.

Preferred:

• Masters in Chemical Engineering and 8-10 years’ process engineering experience.
