Open Pit Driller

Job description:

Purpose Of Position

To operate drilling machines, measure location and stake out pattern of holes to be drilled in the open pit mine while working under the direction/supervision of the drill blast foreman.

Specific Accountabilities/Deliverables

The list of duties and responsibilities below are not exclusive or exhaustive, and the employee will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope of grading of the position. All employees are required to be professional, cooperative and flexible in line with the requirements of the position.

• Operate drilling machines, measure location and stake out pattern of holes to be drilled.
• Read instructions or diagrams
• Ensure safety procedures are observed
• Maintain drilling equipment and related gear
• Work closely with the pit samplers to ensure compliance with sampling procedures

Working Conditions

• Underground and surface mining environments.

Selection Criteria

• Minimum of 1-3 years experience in open pit mines
• Familiarity with drilling equipment and maintenance processes
• Valid driver’s licence required
• The capability to work well with a team of professional and technical people in a changing, creative and energetic environment is critical.
