Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job description:

Purpose Of Position

Responsible for maintaining mobile and stationary equipment in a safe and effective manner.

Specific Accountabilities/Deliverables

The list of duties and responsibilities below are not exclusive or exhaustive, and the employee will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope of grading of the position. All employees are required to be professional, cooperative and flexible in line with the requirements of the position.

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on mobile and stationary equipment including front end loaders, dozers, trucks, compactors, snow blowers, stationary and mobile generators
  • Perform repairs to mobile and stationary equipment
  • Inspect mobile and stationary equipment for defects or required repairs
  • Maintain safe working conditions and adhere to occupational health and safety regulations
  • Assist in preparing preventative and predictive maintenance schedules
  • Maintain inventory control over equipment and supplies
  • Assist in ordering replacement equipment, parts and supplies
  • Assist in risk management activities
  • Maintain maintenance and repairs logs and records
  • Maintain maintenance computer systems

Working Conditions

  • Underground and surface mining environments- may have to work in dusty, hot and noisy conditions (control measures are in place with dust control and ventilation).

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum of 2-4 years experience in repair, overhaul, maintenance, service, reconditioning preferably in a mining environment
  • Completion of secondary mechanical training education or technical training
  • Certificates/licences/memberships for Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic Trade Certification, 4th Period
  • Apprentice, Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician Red Seal Endorsement
  • Type of Equipment Repair: Heavy trucks, Heavy construction equipment, Diesel or diesel-electric mining machinery and equipment, Tractors, Bulldozers, Forklifts, Excavators, and Spreaders,
  • Weight Handling: Up to 45 kg (100 lbs)
  • Administrative capability.
  • The capability to work well with a team of professional and technical people in a changing, creative and energetic environment is critical.
