Quality Control Lab Supervisor

K+S is in the initial stages of developing a new potash mine near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and is building its workforce to support its development and ongoing operations expected in 2015.

We are seeking a Quality Control Laboratory Supervisor to work at our site near Moose Jaw, reporting to the Process Superintendent, who will be responsible for the day to day operations of the Quality Control facility including supervision of day shift technicians and responsibility for shift technicians.

The general tasks and duties will be:

• Working with the Manager, Process Engineering and the Process Superintendent to plan, procure and execute the setup of a temporary and permanent process QC Laboratory at the Legacy site
• Completing daily laboratory analyses for test cavern operational support
• Work with the Process Superintendent to plan, recruit and train the QC Laboratory Technicians required for operational support
• Working together with production and mine staff to ensure upstream process sampling and analysis is conducted properly and on time to allow the process to be operated according to approved specifications
• Responsible to ensure all testing and equipment procedures are documented and kept current
• Coordinating and arranging maintenance of QC lab facilities and equipment
• Development of a QC Lab technician training manual
• Collaborating with production staff to ensure proper sampling and measurements are completed for on-time quality reporting and certification of product shipments
• Works with the Management of Change Coordinator as a key approver for QC laboratory changes and ensuring technical documents are updated
• Ensuring lab facility meets K+S Potash Canada HSE and quality control standards.

We require the following qualifications for this role:

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Chemistry
• 5+ years of overall analytical quality control laboratory experience
• 2+ years of supervisory experience is preferred, preferably in an industrial setting
• Familiarity with relevant potash quality testing and equipment is strongly preferred
• Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.
