Conveyor Systems Layout Design Experience

Due to being awarded several major projects with a number of high profile blue chip clients, this global supplier of automated materials handling equipment to the mining industry urgently needs to recruit a number of skilled lead mechanical design engineers. With major growth plans in place for 2012, now is an exciting time for a skilled mechanical design engineer to join this forward thinking and rapidly expanding business.
The successful applicant will possess the following key skills:
- Front End Design Experience - able to write specifications, perform engineering calculations, etc.
- Hands on/practical background - could be apprenticed or have worked in a workshop environment.
- A few years on Conveyor Systems Layout Design - This could be 10-15 years ago. This could have been done 2D CAD.
- Happy and willing to do site surveys - could be 1-2 days a week in busy periods.
The Role will involve:
- Understanding the client requirements and coming up with a solution.
- Writing specifications and producing a functional design spec. Need good writing skills.
- Site surveys of equipment and risk assessments. May just be a day on site or the odd overnight. Could be 1-2 times a week in busy periods.
- Overseeing design - will have 1-2 CAD designers reporting into them.
- Checking drawings and making modifications. Might need to do some AutoCAD work.
- Some basic calculations - weights (conveyors might be on top of mezzanine floors), centre of gravity, some hand calculations.
- Attending meetings with clients on site
