Human Resources & Benefits Manager - Americas HQ
Basic Function:
- Omya Inc. seeks a Human Resources & Benefits Manager to manage our benefits to ensure that all programs are competitive in the labor market, in compliance with government regulations, meet the needs of employees and are delivered in a cost-effective manner. Other duties include managing the recruitment and hiring process, developing and administering employment policies, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations, and managing employee relations.
Responsibilities:
Recruiting/Employment
- Work with hiring managers, plant administration and corporate HR to recruit employees for vacant positions: assist managers with the requisition process, write and place job postings and advertisements, screen applications, do preliminary interviews, and check references.
- Determine appropriate starting salary offers and promotional increases.
- Coordinate the New Hire Orientation program: ensure that all new hire paperwork is completed and processed in a timely manner, conduct plant tours, introductions, plant/process overview training, and ensure that necessary on-the-job or outside training is provided in a timely manner.
- Conduct exit interviews and report results to management.
- Act as liaison for temporary agencies.
Benefits & Compensation
- Manage the overall design of the benefits package. Research and propose new and/or enhanced benefits necessary to maintain competitiveness in the labor market.
- Administer the company’s Combined Time Off program.
- Design and conduct open enrollment and retirement review meetings.
- Administer all retirement plans which include a defined benefit, defined contribution and non-qualified plan.
- Liaison between company and actuary, plan record keepers, trustee and benefit providers.
- Manage the leave process including FMLA, disability and workers comp.
- Ensure compliance with all mandated reporting such as EEO-1, VETS-100, OSHA, SARs, 5500's, and pension valuation process.
Employee Relations
- Identify employee relations issues and opportunities and recommend actions to address.
- Assist managers with disciplinary actions.
- Under direction of manager, coordinate involuntary terminations: ensure proper documentation is maintained, arrange final check with payroll department, etc.
- Participate on team investigating allegations of harassment, other offensive behavior or other types of discrimination charges. Maintain documentation and ensure that all legal and company obligations are met.
Training & Development
- Conduct training on Human Resources-related subject matter on an as-needed basis.
- Bring training programs, including supporting and encouraging the utilization of the on-line Skill Soft training program.
- Work with VP of Human Resources to ensure that personal development plans are maintained for key employees.
- Research and recommend training programs on various non-HR related subjects.
- Coordinate the Tuition Reimbursement program.
Other
- Maintain appropriate personnel records for employees in a strictly confidential manner.
- Coordinate all status changes, new hire and termination paperwork to ensure that all necessary parties are notified in a timely manner.
- Coordinate special activities.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Candidate profile requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business or human resources-related area and 10+ years’ experience as a Generalist for a large global company.
- Graduate level degree preferred.
- Benefits & compensation expertise required.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are highly desired.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary, as is competence in the use of advanced spreadsheets.
- Must have experience with managing multiple vendors including actuaries, auditors, payroll companies, brokers, recruiters, relocation companies, etc.
- Supervisory experience, project management and strong reporting skills are also required.
- Experience with international HR and organizations preferred.
