Environmental Affairs Manager - Region Americas
- Provide environmental leadership and support to [Company] facilities in Region Americas.
- The primary focus is the creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of an effective Environmental Management Systems (EMS) for Region Americas.
Implementation of this EMS will allow the Manager of Environmental Affairs to accomplish the following:
- To collaboratively develop Environmental standards, programs and metrics for every [Company] facility in Region Americas in a manner that is aligned with industry standards and that supports the [Company] group’s overall Environmental goals.
- To provide resources to, and to fully support, local Environmental initiatives at individual plants, quarries and other facilities to document and ensure baseline compliance with the aforementioned standards, programs, and metrics.
- To promote continuous improvement of Environmental performance across the Region.
- To provide leadership and promote information sharing across disciplines, between facilities and with [Company] group to increase [Company] overall ability to efficiently anticipate and respond to Environmental opportunities.
Responsibilities:
Environmental Assessment and Design
- Responsible for identifying solutions for specific Environmental compliance concerns and addressing them in ways that are economically and technically viable and that may provide strategic advantage to the business.
- Efficiently and collaboratively interact with Regional Staff, Operations Managers, Mining Managers, Plant Managers, Plant Environmental Managers, Engineering Staff, Product Development, Sales and Marketing to assure effective review and integration of Environmental considerations as they pertain to new initiatives, products, projects and process modifications.
- Responsible for conducting due diligence investigations and Environmental reviews and approvals for new process and industrial use chemicals.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve Environmental performance in competitively advantageous manner. Be leading innovator. Work ahead of Environmental curve to move [Company] forward in key Environmental issues.
- Design, develop and implement tools and techniques necessary to provide for ongoing assessment of site and regional risks as well as overall Environmental performance.
Implementation
- Promote continuous improvement and harmonization of existing Environmental programs, procedures, and tools to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and [Company] best practices.
- Provide Environmental expertise and guidance to site operational teams.
- Manage [Company] RAM’s Environmental Team. Identify and implement professional development plans for Plan Environmental Managers. Participate in performance review process. Collaborate with Plant Manager to define annual objectives for both the site and the Environmental Manager.
Monitor, Report and Communicate Progress
- Manage regular strategic review of Environmental Affairs in the organization to provide appropriate objectives and programs to improve overall Environmental performance and to defend against future liabilities.
- Collect, maintain, analyze and distribute facility Environmental data in accordance with business and site specific guidance.
- Prepare regular regulatory Environmental assessments to maintain compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
- Promote communication between facilities across the company to foster learning and collaboration around Environmental initiatives.
- Represent [Company] RAM at Group Environmental Meetings.
- Assist local plant personnel, as needed, in preparing timely responses to all enquires from governmental bodies on Environmental Affairs-related issues.
- Produce and annual State of the Region Environmental report and deliver findings to senior management.
- Prepare RAM Top 10 Environmental risks reports on monthly basis and drive elimination or at least significant reduction of these risks.
Candidate profile requirements
- 10+ years of successful regulatory work experience in the environmental and safety arena. A B.S. (M.S. preferred) in natural, physical, or environmental sciences.
- Solid working knowledge of ISO 14001 (EMS) and preferable also of OHSAS 18001, OSHA, MSHA, EPA, DOT and their Canadian counterparts as they apply to [Company] facilities.
- A proven ability to recognize and anticipate regulatory changes and their potential impacts on [Company] business.
- Demonstrated experience of strong initiative, leadership and project management skills.
- Must be a good listener and be able to recognize and be sensitive to the differing cultural characteristics of the various plants and their unique operational contexts.
- A proven track records of successfully promoting organizational change initiatives.
- Ability to creatively approach challenges and projects and to work both independently and in teams effectively for the best possible outcome.
- Travel of approximately 50% will be required.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
- Spoken and written fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is preferred.
