Maint Mech I - CTRM

Job Summary:

  • Works with the plant maintenance team to provide maintenance, repair, or installation services for the Central Texas Ready Mix plants located but not restricted to the Greater Austin and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Installs, maintains and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, plumbing and electrical systems following specifications, blue prints and manuals.
  • Performs daily inspection of machinery and equipment at the plant.
  • Visually inspects and listens to machines and equipment to diagnose cause of malfunctions.
  • Communicates timely and effectively with Plant Coordinator and Production Supervisor to keep them informed about major problems.
  • Performs data entry on all services performed.
  • May operate mobile equipment.
  • Performs daily preventative maintenance, record and inspection on service vehicle to include fueling, cleaning, tire/light inspection, checking and adding fluids as needed.
  • Services pumps/motors as needed.
  • Repairs/replaces wear items as required.
  • Perform welding, repair and fabrication.
  • Maintains parts inventory.
  • May make service calls at other TXI plants as needed.
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of lock out/tag out procedure required during certain procedures.
  • Communicates/directs co-workers through hand signals and two-way radio.
  • Assists in training of co-workers as needed.
  • Performs general clean up of work area.
  • Required to follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job Specific Tasks:

  • (Rare=1-10%, Occasional=11-33%, Frequent=34-66%, Constant= 67-100% of time)
  • Climb a side ladder on the silo for inspections and repair. Requires climbing up a distance of up to 100 feet. Each rung is 11” apart.  Requires good balance and use of both hands and feet.

  • Sit and drive service truck to and from service call site.  Requires ability to tolerate sitting for up to two hours at one time.  Occasional
  • Sit and operate mobile equipment.  Requires ability to tolerate sitting for up to three hours at one time.  Requires simultaneous use of both hands for steering/gear changing and simultaneous use of both feet for pedals. Occasional
  • Lift a 142 lb. pipe from floor and position it on vice on back of truck using a two-man lift.  Requires ability to lift the pipe to a height of 45”.  Occasional
  • Lift and carry parts weighing up to 100 lbs. (e.g. 100 lb. material gate, 90 lb. rigid 90 with flanges, 100 lb. roll of skirt board (50’), 88 lb. trough idler) from supply room to service truck and from service truck to location of service call.  Distances up to 20 feet.  (Mechanical assistive devices available for lifting objects that weigh more than 100 lbs.)  Occasional
  • Carry equipment/parts up 30 stairs (each step is 8-11” high).  Items may weigh up to 30 lbs.  Frequent
  • Demonstrate the ability to manipulate and roll a 55-gallon drum (weighing up to 350 lbs.) from storage area to forklift, distance up to 15 feet.  Rare
  • Walk around the plant to perform inspections and repairs. Distances up to 1800 yards per day.  May have to walk on uneven, and potential slippery surfaces.  Frequent
  • Utilize sledgehammer, impact tools, hand tools, band saws to repair or tighten parts.  Performed in all ranges of upper extremity positions. Frequent
  • Use hand signaling and two-way radio to communicate with co-workers.  Frequent
  • Alternate from crouching, squatting, and kneeling to inspect, assemble, weld or repair equipment.  Frequent
  • Visually monitor control panels, electrical panels and warning lights.  Requires normal (correctable) vision, normal depth perception, and ability to distinguish color.  Frequent

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend from trunk, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects.
  • Lift objects of various dimensions and weights.
  • Ability to operate hand controls with both hands.
  • Ability to operate foot pedals with both feet.
  • Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching.
  • Ability to use vibration tools.
  • Ability to tolerate working outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather.
  • Ability to work in areas with the potential for high noise levels.
  • Ability to work in cramped quarters.
  • Ability to tolerate working at heights up to 100 feet.
  • Vision:    Normal depth perception, vision and ability to distinguish color.

Environment:

  • Outdoors 90%
  • Indoors 10%

Personal Protective Equipment:

Required:

  • Hard hats, steel toe boots, hearing protection( in designated areas) and protective glasses.
  • Filtering facemasks available during certain conditions.  Welding hat required when welding.
  • Full fall protection harness when needed.

Recommended:

  • Gloves

Job Requirements:

  • May be required to work Holidays and weekends.
  • Scheduled to be on call alternate weekends.
  • On call 24 hours a day unless scheduled vacation.
  • Must be able to respond within 30 minutes of notice.
  • Must have knowledge of plant maintenance and welding.
  • Must have knowledge of crushing, screening, pumps, material handling equipment and all related major systems in order to trouble shoot or anticipate system problems.
  • Must be able to read blue prints and mechanical diagrams.
  • Read, write and communicate in English.
  • People leadership skills and ability to follow direction and lead by example.
  • Ability to teach.
  • Ability to perform well in a “TEAM” environment.
  • Self-motivator.
