Job Description:

  • [Company] Chemical Engineering Intern
  • The [Company] Chemical Engineering intern will assist the Chemistry and Waste department in up to four cost reduction efforts for The Geysers, including:
  • Determination of the cost of transporting water in sulfur product and waste shipments from [Company] systems, and exploring alternatives to reduce the cost of operating the existing filtration systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend Stretford sulfur filtration means to maximize salt extraction in filtrates.
  • Help build and test a small bench scale pilot Stretford system to understand the potential of bacterial oxidation of thiosulfate salts in the process.
  • Assist in testing an alternative chelated iron H2S abatement chemical. 
  • The remainder of unloaded intern time will be utilized in assisting lab personnel in other analytical laboratory tasks including chemical analyses and data entry.

Job Requirements:

  • Candidate should have completed coursework in their junior year in engineering science, including chemical engineering coursework in Chemical Process Analysis, Transport Phenomena, Unit Operations and Unit Operations Lab, and chemistry coursework in General Chemistry with lab, and Quantitative Analysis with lab.
  • Candidate should be familiar with Microsoft Office Tools software (Word, Excel, Outlook), willing to work as a team with good writing and communication skills.  Intern must hold a valid driver’s license, and have the ability to drive mountainous roads.  Work environment includes office and laboratory settings as well as outdoors in an industrial/power plant setting.
