Field Project Engineer (Mechanical)

Job Description:

  • The Field Project Engineer – (Mechanical) is responsible for the management of some of the scope of work during the construction of the Russell City 600 MW NG fired combined cycle power plant.
  • This position encompasses the technical management of the EPC Contractor and support of the Project Engineer/Project Manager in his duties of overall project and contract management.    
  • The field project engineer is responsible for managing the onsite review of EPC contractor deliverables.
  • Coordinate submittals and RFIs to Calpine Engineering.
  • Coordinate and manage all Calpine linear construction.
  • Assist with reviews of EPC contractors design drawings, design standards and equipment specifications for constructability and value engineering with Calpine Engineering.
  • Conduct work at the job site assisting the Project Manager in managing the construction effort.
  • Works closely with Construction team to insure it has the latest drawings and specifications. Also, provides expeditious responses to technical questions raised during construction.
  • Coordinate and/or manage major mechanical aspects of the project.
  • Respond to CEC/CBO technical questions and resolve any interface problems with CBO document reviews and site inspections
  • Coordinate with the resident engineer (RE) all CEC related civil/structural engineering issues.
  • Supports the development and updating of the project schedule between EPC contractor and Calpine’s scheduler.
  • Manages the job site for unsafe work conditions and ensures all safety violations are corrected immediately.
  • Assists in the preparation of weekly and monthly progress reports.
  • Provides technical review and offers commercial opinion to project manager on EPC contractor change orders requests
  • Represents the RCEC site team in engineering-related negotiations with clients, partners, suppliers, vendors, consultants and contractors as necessary.
  • Ensures the project is being constructed in compliance with the Project Design Criteria (scope book) design standards and applicable codes and quality standards established for the project.
  • Reviews and approves invoices prior to final approval by the Project Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Project Manager.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to manage large complex engineering projects.
  • Ability to resolve disputes.
  • Good problem solving and analytical ability.
  • Good verbal, writing management and team building skills.
  • Applicant should have an extensive knowledge of power plant design and construction techniques. A working understanding of major engineering, procurement, and construction contracting, cost accounting, and budgeting is desired, with extensive experience working as a project engineer / manager on power plant projects.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in ME, EE, or CE.
