URS is a single-source provider of planning, engineering design, construction, technical, management, and operations and maintenance services to public and private sector clients worldwide.

We are currently seeking an ES&H Manager (reference # 201210) at the Agrium Kapuskasing Phosphate Operations in Northern Ontario, Canada.

Our contract includes overall mine operation, long-term planning, engineering and maintenance, human relations, training, safety and hygiene, and regulatory compliance.  The current mine life is approximately 18 months and the project is situated 36 KM from the Town of Kapuskasing.

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining safety training strategies
  • Collecting, analyzing and reporting data relating to the implementation of preventative strategies, critical incidents and injury frequency rates
  • Promoting and maintaining strategies to enforce safety standards and regulations
  • Safeguarding the site through safety measures that protect company assets and people
  • Managing emergency preparedness programs that ensure the site is able to react systematically and effectively in a crisis and minimize damage or risk
  • Writing, communicating, implementing and following through with safety procedures and policies
  • Liaising with Ontario's Workers Safety Insurance Board and other Government agencies
  • Ensuring that all work is completed in compliance with site operation and government policies

The preferred incumbent will hold the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a Safety Manager role, preferably in the mining industry
  • Education in a Safety related discipline and/or certified Safety Professional preferred
  • MTCU Common Core First Line Generic Supervisor certification considered an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of Mine Regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Ability to develop and maintain a constructive relationship with others.
  • Must be able to develop, document and follow up on activities to achieve objectives
  • Ability to develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with all departments, and the coordinating of health, safety, and environmental policies.
