Scanner Technician

The purpose of the role is to ensure smooth and efficient running of day to day core scanning operations.

Minimum Requirements

• Senior Certificate
• A National Diploma will be advantageous
• Must have experience in Geological Mapping
• Sampling experience will be advantageous
• Computer literacy and some mechanical intuition are non-negotiable requirements

Job Specification

The role holder has the following accountabilities and authorities:

• Coordinating the daily efforts of core yard assistants including planning of shift hours and crew rotations as well as handling of labour disputes / concerns
• Scheduling and coordinating any core moves
• Coordinating movement of he scanner from one site to another in consultation with the project manager
• Setting up and disassembling the scanner as required for the transportation thereof
• Ensure the smooth and efficient running of day to day core scanning operations involving the hyper spectral core scanner, as per daily schedule
• Meticulous recording of the relevant scanning information (i.e. hole ID's, from-to depths, condition of scanned core, etc.)
• Reporting any irregularities encountered during scanning operations / data acquisition
• Ensuring that core yard assistants methodically adhere to prescribes processes and providing them with coaching and training of and when required.
• Quality Assurance, Quality Control, (QA/QC) of the scanner, real time checks of core quality and depth marking correctness, as well as post-shift data cleaning
• Hardware maintenance - regular checks for scanner defects and cleaning of dust filters on sensitive camera equipment.
• The scanning operation is a data collection exercise and data integrity is therefore very important. 
• The operator should ensure that the data is secure and backed up on a regular (preferably daily) basis.

Reporting To:

• Senior Project Geologist
