Environmental Scientist III

Primary Focus:

• Works under very general direction.  Exercises reasonable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments.  Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.  Performs remedial investigations at assigned sites, including assistance in remedial system design and implementation.  Keeps updated on new regulations and procedures.  Provides leadership to less experienced scientists and to technicians through work assignments, monitoring schedules and resolving problems.  May act as lead person or technical expert on assigned projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to the following

• Performs complex field inspections and studies of sites proposed for investigation including topography, sensitive environmental receptors and geological formations that may have a bearing on the scope of work.
• Coordinates the full time inspection of subsurface investigations including the supervision of technicians, Environmental Scientist I and II, drill crews, and UST removal crews.
• Performs geological literature searches, data analyses and environmental modeling required to evaluate the impact of geological formations identified through subsurface investigations.
• Evaluates both routine and complex laboratory and boring data and samples, generates geologic cross-sections and reviews and prepares data for the inclusion in reports.
• Prepares Regulatory reports and makes any required recommendations on assigned projects for approval of Group Manager or higher.
• Prepare and reviews estimates for proposals on environmental projects.
• Supervises and develops the scope of work associated with remedial pilot tests.
• Updates job costing and ensures profitability goals are met for assigned cases and cases managed by assigned ES I’s and ES II’s.
• Prepares invoices in a timely manner.
• Assists with remedial design as needed.
• Reviews Regulator reports and invoices prepared by Junior Scientists.
• Tracks deliverable timeframes and ensures clients compliance with regulatory deadlines.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree from four-year College and a minimum of seven years practical experience in geology or environmental science.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Valid driver’s license, 40 hour OSHA trained with updated 8-hour refresher.  Certified for UST investigations in the regulated States he/she works within.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works outdoors.
