Environmental Scientist II

Primary  Focus:

  • Works under general direction.  Demonstrates ability to identify and interpret the technical objectives of assignments.  Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.  Performs subsurface investigations at specific sites including work scope development for obtaining necessary data.  Keeps updated on new regulations, procedures, and publications.  Provides leadership to less experienced scientists and to technicians through work assignments, monitoring schedules and resolving problems.  May act as lead person or technical expert on assigned projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to the following.

  • Performs routine and complex field inspections and studies of sites proposed for investigation including topography, sensitive environmental receptors and geological formations that may have a bearing on the proposed investigation.
  • Provides technical supervision on the collection and interpretation of field data.
  • Coordinates the full time inspection of subsurface investigations including the supervision of technicians, Environmental Scientist I, drill crews, and tank removals.
  • Performs geological literature searches and routine and complex analyses.  Evaluates the impact of geological formations at sites undergoing excavation and subsurface investigations.
  • Evaluates both routine and complex laboratory and boring data, generates geologic cross-sections, and prepares data for the inclusion in reports.
  • Composes routine and complex Regulatory reports, including any required recommendations for the approval of a senior scientist.  Performs routine groundwater fate and transport modeling for inclusion in reports.
  • Prepares proposals on routine projects.
  • Updates job costing and ensures profitability goals are met.
  • Prepares invoices for senior review in a timely manner.
  • Oversees and aids in the performance of remedial pilot testing, as needed.
  • Ensures work is completed within workscope budget, an in a manner that meets regulatory/client timeframes.

Job Requirements:

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related fields with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid Driver’s License, 40 hour OSHA trained, current 8 hour refresher.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works outdoors.
