Environmental Engineer

Summary of Position:

  • Provide technical direction and drive compliance and improvement of critical environmental programs in water, wastewater and hazardous waste management & combustion.  The candidate must be a self-motivated, hardworking team player who pays attention to details and delivers results.   Strong organizational and communication skills are essential. 
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate that he or she can take ownership of the job responsibilities and hold themselves accountable for individual and site successes.
  • Major Activities and Principal Responsibilities: Interpret permits and regulations, maintain in-depth knowledge of existing and proposed regulations, implement programs and coordinate with outside agencies as needed for regulatory inspections, permitting functions, release reporting, recordkeeping and compliance activities
  • Determine best practices and serve as the technical point of contact for compliance questions
  • Provide appropriate coaching and mentoring to ensure the work processes are delivering meaningful business results.
  • Demonstrated experience with Hazardous Waste Combustion, RCRA Part B Permits, Hazardous Waste
  • Management, Waste Classifications, DOT, NPDES, RCRA, EPA, CERCLA, and CWA Wastewater
  • Treatment Processes
  • Familiarity with Stack Testing, CEMS, HWC MACT (EEE),  BIF MACT (DDDDD), C&D Landfill, and
  • Compliance & Discharge monitoring reports, SWPPP, SPCC and a working knowledge of Texas solid
  • waste and wastewater environmental regulations
  • Collaborate with internal / external groups to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements including but not limited to Annual Waste Summary, Emission Inventory, TRI, Tier II, SARA, and various other Federal / Texas environmental reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing operations to meet environmental expectations, improve and track key compliance metrics and implement programs that achieve regulatory requirements and operational flexibility
  • Improve and maintain established environmental management systems including databases, documentation, training programs and internal audit functions for required media (waste, wastewater)
  • Direct and review the work of consultants
  • Participate in industry associations, peer groups and other organizations to share and learn best practices, build relationships and promote the company's interests; 
  • Respond to and investigate environmental incidents such as spills, releases, NOVs, and complaints

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • BS degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in a chemical or industrial setting
  • Demonstrated analytical, communication and negotiations skills
