EHS Specialist (Emergency Response Coordinator)

Position Description

  • The EHS Specialist (Emergency Response Coordinator) role is a lead position responsible for leading the Emergency Response Team (ERT) Members and compliance with OSHA requirements.  The responsibilities include but are not limited to ensuring that the ERT members receive all required training, all emergency response equipment is ready for use, Health & Safety investigations and audits, and managing the inspection of Fire Protection Systems.  This position reports to the Gulf Region Health & Safety Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively work with H&S Field Leads to ensure safety work practices and work permits are compliant with both OSHA and Kinder Morgan EHS requirements.
  • Provide the ERT with the tools and supplies needed to be successful.
  • Communicate to Gulf Region EHS Manager known/discovered non-compliance or inefficiencies in [Company] H&S practices.
  • Enter incidents into [Company] database (STARS) and complete timely investigations and associated action items. 
  • Participate in H&S audits with [Company] Corporate auditors and government agency inspections.
  • Conduct routine self assessments of ERT training programs.
  • Create & conduct periodic regulatory training e.g. Annual HAZWOPER refresher
  • Participate in mutual aid and community awareness programs (i.e. CIMA, LEPC and CAC)
  • Respond to site injuries and work with EMT to provide first aid and/or patient packaging to medical center for further evaluation.
  • Effectively communicate changes to ERT procedures and policies to impacted parties
  • Train new ERT members and equip them with the proper PPE.
  • Attend and lead all ERT training which will include travel to fire school 4 times per year.
  • Ensure [Company] Fire Protection Systems are inspected, maintained, and in good working condition.

Position Requirements

  • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules
  • Demonstrate behavior consistent with [Company] Safety, Quality, and Environmental (SQE) Program
  • Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations as delineated through 29CFR 1910 and 29 CFR 1926 standards.   Working understanding of NFPA standard as related to requirements/training of Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Emergency Operation Center (EOC) team members.
  • Have or willing to obtain EMT Basic Certification
  • Ability to work independently to prioritize and manage workload while providing timely turnaround on tasks
  • Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, often under short or changing deadlines, in a diverse and fast paced environment
  • Required to carry a company-provided cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours; share in on-call duties rotation
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to network within the [Company] organization to support EHS effort(s)
  • Adaptable to organizational change
  • Maintain valid Texas driver’s license and capable of obtaining/maintaining CDL for operation of [Company] fire truck
  • Ability to work under pressure within deadlines
  • Member of the [Company] Emergency Response Team
  • Ability to interact with regulatory agencies and peers with self-confidence, poise, and professionalism
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified, and have knowledge of emergency rescue procedures

  • Complete Ops Info, training and other actions on-time with appropriate closure status.
