VP - Environment

Position Overview:

  • To lead and manage the multi-disciplinary Environmental program to support the development of the Pebble Project.

Position Details
Key Result Areas & Specific Responsibilities

  • Coordinate specialist multi-disciplinary studies necessary for the submission of the Environmental Baseline Document (EBD). Ensure that this work is completed to the scope and standard required to support applications to State & Federal Governments for permits and the National Environmental Policy (NEPA) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process.
  • Determine resource requirements for the Project and the most appropriate method of accessing the necessary specialist technical skills and expertise; recruiting and developing employees and engaging and managing contractors as appropriate.
  • Collate all multi-disciplinary baseline data and information into the Environmental Baseline Document for submission to the State And Federal Permitting Agencies in support of the Application for Permits.
  • Ensure that all key aspects of the multi-disciplinary environmental studies are communicated to the mine design team, and that the final mine design minimizes impacts on the environment (particularly surface and groundwater quality and hydrology, salmon fisheries and subsistence resources), and that the design caters adequately for future closure.
  • Coordinate the Pebble Limited Partnership Environmental Impact Assessment prior to finalization of the mine design to ensure all relevant environmental information is incorporated and the final project design is the most responsibly-designed project, in anticipation of the NEPA-led  EIS.
  • Manage and co-ordinate the team of technical experts to effectively liaise with the NEPA environmental consultants on the preparation of the EIS.
  • Act as key expert and point of contact within the Partnership for Environmental issues.

Candidate Details
Qualifications

  • A higher degree in Biology, Bioengineering or Earth Sciences.

Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience of managing multi-disciplinary scientific investigations focused on supporting the development of socially and environmentally designed large-scale projects.
  • Experience in the mining or related industry is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with project development and a successful track record integrating multi-disciplinary findings into project  design plans.
  • Previous experience in North American mining or associated natural resources industries, with Arctic experience preferred.
  • Intimate knowledge and understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment and the requirements of the Federal NEPA and State permitting processes.
  • Experience in the Environmental Sciences e.g. Aquatic and / or Fisheries Science.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent presentation abilities.

  • Travel to project related destinations as required.
