Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description:

  • EaglePicher Technologies is the leading producer of batteries and energetic devices for the defense, space and commercial industries, and provides the most experience and broadest capability in battery electrochemistry of any battery supplier in the United States.
  • EaglePicher is seeking an energetic, performance-driven candidate for a Manufacturing Engineering role supporting its Thermal business operations in Pittsburg, Kansas. Responsibilities include machine and tooling design and or optimization for automated and manual applications, selecting, integrating and validating new process equipment and monitoring and improving existing equipment. The position will be responsible for managing the transition of various Thermal Battery Programs from the Joplin Facility to production status at the Pittsburg Facility and, also, be responsible for increasing productivity of existing designs. Position will manage state-of-the-art equipment and ensure company stays ahead of the growth curve with equipment capability.

Ongoing responsibilities include:

  • Machine and tooling design; automated and manual applications
  • Develop and monitor control processes for automated manufacturing equipment
  • Select, integrate and validate new process equipment
  • Interpret and solve processing and production problems by obtaining data and performing analysis to identify cause and effect and evaluate range of alternatives
  • Spearhead continuous improvement projects throughout the process
  • Develop material handling techniques based on lean principles
  • Effectively communicate technical information and complex ideas in support of customers  Investigate new equipment and technology for production use
  • Pursue activities to reduce costs, improve performance of tools and equipment and aid with the selection of suppliers
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing strategies for equipment, workplace layouts, labor and material flow to meet strategic goals
  • Create manufacturing and quality documentation, including control plans, FMEA’s, process flow charts, etc.
  • Conduct designed experiments (DOE) to optimize processes
  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews for new products
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting desirable

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Mechanical/Design
  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude; detail oriented
  • Solid Modeling CAD experience: Autodesk Inventor a plus
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics for machine design
  • Working knowledge of PLC control principles and logic
  • Working knowledge of vision systems and robotics a plus
  • Experience with tool and die maintenance and welding applications is preferred
  • Experience with GD & T
  • Experience with FMEA and Kaizen methods preferred
  • Must be knowledgeable and experienced with SPC
  • Supervisory Experience and or project management experience desired
  • Working knowledge of the principles of Lean manufacturing
  • Skilled in use of Microsoft applications, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • U.S. Citizen or green card holder
