EPT also provides other energy products and pyrotechnic devices for the defense industry as well as advanced battery chargers and other power solutions for business, industrial and recreational applications.
  • EaglePicher Technologies, LLC , based in Joplin, Missouri, is seeking a Controls Engineer to support its Manufacturing Engineering team across all EaglePicher plants.

Job Summary:

  • Position functions as automation and controls engineer designing and installing automation and controls for a variety of manufacturing methods from small lot assembly to robust fully automated equipment. Primary industrial controls are Rockwell and Allen Bradley with a variety of other vendor industrial automation vendors used in specialized equipment. Industrial electrical and mechanical controls design along with PLC/HMI programming will be required for new and existing systems Interfacing with manufacturing information enterprise network data management programs for historical database capture, automated analysis, and report generation will also be a function of the controls engineering position The candidate will use current tools and design new tools to enhance the Lean Six-Sigma methodology practiced by the controls engineering group to provide continuous improvement and bottom line benefits.

Ongoing responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the design and development, start-up and debug of automation systems for process and industrial equipment using both new and existing hardware and software applications
  • Interface with manufacturing product and process engineers to provide a broad range of controls engineering knowledge and skills including instrumentation, mechanical and electrical automated systems components and industrial automation systems programming from simple to complex, fully automated systems
  • Solve complex automation equipment and process control problems utilizing education and experiential knowledge and hands on skills as well as well by utilizing a data driven root cause analysis methodology
  • Interface closely with manufacturing operations to ensure product conformance and design for manufacturability
  • Identify Key Projects and utilize Lean Six Sigma Project methods to drive bottom line improvements
  • Provide expert level PLC and HMI programming for process control, automation, and data management
  • Able to communicate at both high technical detail level and summarize complex ideas in support of business and customer’s requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or closely related field required
  • Experienced controls and automation engineer with 5+ years of experience in industrial controls and automated systems development, troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge in industrial PLC/HMI programming, specifically Rockwell and Allen-Bradley Logix 500/5000
  • Experience with common control elements such as motor drives, valves, relays and measurement transducers for pressure, temperature and flow as well as electrochemical and other sensor devices required
  • Knowledge of factory automation standards, industrial design practices (ANSI, IEEE, ISA, NEC, NEMA, NFPA) and industrial safety requirements (OSHA, SIL, IS).
  • Knowledge implementing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SPC control methods and ISO9000 preferred
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic, electronic, hydraulic, digital and analog industrial controls a plus
  • Certification as a Certified Automation Professional (ISA) or Control Systems Engineer desirable
  • Able to multi-task, managing multiple different priority tasks
  • U.S. Citizen and able to meet eligibility requirement for classified security clearance
