Engineer-Battery Development

Job Summary:

  • Responsible for the execution of battery development projects, including the development of battery electrodes, cell design optimization and evaluation of form factor configurations to meet performance requirements. Characterize and understand cell performance under various load conditions and carry out materials evaluation in the battery.
  • May be involved with the development of new materials and additives including evaluation and qualification from laboratory to production.

Ongoing responsibilities:

  • Co-develop and execute battery development projects from lab scale through pilot trials. Evaluate materials, additives, electrode formulations, cell design configurations and other cell parameters with DOE methodology. Develop critical understanding of battery performance and reliability for a given application.
  • Perform cell failure analysis and materials characterization through techniques including electrochemical characterization, optical microscopy, SEM and imaging methods including x-ray.
  • Coordinate and execute product development trials. Summarize and present respective results, with conclusions and recommendations.
  • Prepare material and process specifications, and other engineering documents as well as cost estimates as needed.
  • Support process validation, risk management and pilot production
  • Demonstrate active support of the technology mission, corporate vision and quality initiatives.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of a BS degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
  • Two to five years of experience in an R&D or Product Development environment.
  • Experience in Lithium battery development is desirable.
  • Creative problem solver who has the ability to synthesize information from various sources to make meaningful conclusions.
  • Team player with good oral and written communication skills who is able to leverage resources as needed.
  • PC proficiency, data analysis, and project management skills are required. Knowledge of Minitab, SPC and DOE methodology is a plus.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
