Safety & Industrial Hygiene Intern

Job Description

  • United States Steel Corporation has an opening for a part-time student position in its Safety & Industrial Hygiene organization in the Headquarters Office located in Pittsburgh, PA.
  • Candidate must be willing to commit to a minimum of three months of employment. The intern will work an average of 40 hrs/week during the summer.

The student will receive training in the following areas:

  • Administration of the U. S. Steel safety and industrial hygiene management system to ensure a safe work environment within the assigned facility.
  • Assisting organizations in improvements in their safety performance including coordination of programs to prevent incidents (with and without injury), as well as participating with incident investigations.
  • Assisting with the Contractor Safety Project.
  • Learning the integrated safety and industrial hygiene practices and principles through the assigned facility.
  • Assisting in the development and delivery of the safety and industrial hygiene program.
  • Learning and understanding the steel making process.
  • This entry-level training position provides the student with exposure to various aspects of U.S. Steel’s Safety and Industrial Hygiene department, as well as interaction with the plant operations within the corporation, providing a well-rounded basic knowledge of the safety and industrial hygiene program.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Health or a closely related field.
  • Completion or working towards completion of sophomore year and be in good academic standing.
  • Ability and willingness to work the schedule outlined above
  • Continuation of an acceptable grade point average while participating in the program.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Computer literacy to a working skills level - proficient with Microsoft Office. products, especially Excel.
