  • Position Summary
  • The primary purpose of this position is to lead strategic business teams in the analysis of corporate environmental policies and positions in light of the Company’s business strategy, political and regulatory landscape, and available technologies. The individual in this position is an industry-recognized expert who functions as a technical and policy expert for the Corporation, with an understanding of the different trajectories of public policy, feasible technology and the corporation's long-term and short-term interests.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Participate in corporate business strategy teams to properly integrate environmental considerations.
  • Provide input to the CEO, CFO, COO, other senior managers, and the Enterprise Risk Management team on the different trajectories of public policy, feasible technology and the corporation's long-term and short-term interests.
  • Develop cost-effective strategies on major environmental compliance issues affecting the Company and identify and prioritize environmental exposures.
  • Shape developing regulations with the regulators and develop regulatory and/or legislative strategies for dealing with major environmental issues that have enterprise risk and public policy implications.
  • Play a leadership role in industry discussions and develop partnerships with affected stakeholders to ensure cost-effective regulation and/or legislative development and regulatory enforcement.
  • Provide expert technical support and insight on major environmental issues.

Candidate Qualifications
Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration.

  • Bachelors degree in a related technical field.
  • 10 years of related environmental experience.
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills to communicate environmental issues and business issues to regulators and other Corporate environmental stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the different trajectories of public policy, feasible technology and the corporation's long-term and short-term interests.
  • Thorough understanding of Corporate operations and structure.
  • Knowledge of developing and cutting-edge environmental solutions.
  • Ability to lead complex projects and exercise good judgment in developing alternatives which consider environmental and business issues.
  • Provide leadership to move Company and personnel toward achievement of desired goals.
  • Ability to build business partnerships with internal groups as well as with industry, environmental groups and others to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrates the following attributes: taking the initiative; networking skills; sharing of knowledge; effectiveness in team settings -- both as a team member and as a leader, when needed; ability to build consensus on common goals; ability to take a broad perspective; and ability to present ideas persuasively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Professional Registration (PE or related professional licensure).
  • 10 years’ experience in the power industry.
  • Recognized by other industry leaders as an environmental policy expert.
  • Experience working with regulators, legislators and lobbyists.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Clean Air Act, especially as it applies to electric utility issues which may include: The Acid Rain Program, BART, Cross State Air Pollution Rule, Utility MACT, Regional Haze and Visibility issues and National Air Quality Standards.
