Safety & IH Gas Specialist I
Job Description
- [Company] has an immediate need for a Safety & Industrial Hygiene Plant Gas Specialist at our Mon Valley Works.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assists in the implementation and administration of the Corporate Gas Hazard Management Program.
- Maintains communications with operating divisions regarding gas safety, including but not limited to, planned and unplanned outages and operational upsets.
- Provides appropriate response and support to events and conditions related to gas safety including: Investigation, monitoring and other services necessary to minimize the gas hazards.
- Provides Operating and Maintenance Divisions with Gas Program related data and associated analysis in a format and frequencies that provides for effective oversight of the Gas Hazard Program.
- Procures all air monitoring and respiratory protection equipment necessary in compliance with the Corporate Gas Hazard Program.
- Maintains records of equipment inventories, calibrations, daily bump tests, inspections, and equipment repairs.
- Oversees and directs the on-site Gas Services and supervises gas technicians.
- Establishes, maintains, and directs ongoing auditing programs to monitor performance and compliance with the Corporate Gas Hazard Management Program.
- Evaluates, together with Plant Engineering, new installations and changes to process equipment to assure necessary gas detection and warning systems are in place.
- Supports the development of training materials and qualifies instructors.
- Maintains records and makes necessary reports of training
- Conducts gas rescue drills as required by the Corporate Gas Hazard Management Program and completes documentation.
- Provides technical and compliance related support to the Operating and Maintenance Divisions regarding all elements of the Gas Hazard Management Program.
- Learns and maintains a working knowledge of the steelmaking process.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Health or equivalent experience with Safety and Industrial Hygiene or Gas Program Management.
- 3-5 years of experience required.
- Steel Industry or Utilities background preferred.
- Good written and verbal Communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Proficiency using various computer programs.
- Steel Industry experience preferred.
