Accounting Supervisor

Job Description

  • Responsible for supervising general ledger accounting staff and monthly close.
  • Provide accounting guidance to the field and senior management.
  • Review and analyze monthly financial results and reports
  • Review analyses from staff including President letter, internal financial reporting package, ARO, Inventory, work orders, royalty payments and  GL reconciliations.
  • Prepare and/or review various accounting treatment memos including research and analysis of applicable FASB guidelines as needed.
  • Review complex agreements, leases and legal settlement agreements to determine proper accounting treatment.
  • Review and assist with the implementation of new FASB statements or accounting guidelines.
  • Review and maintain Sarbanes – Oxley (SOX) documentation and procedures for general accounting.
  • Manage special projects and streamline various accounting processes.   

Essential Job Accountabilities

  • 10% Review monthly consolidated balance sheets and income statements.  Analyze and research significant and unusual items.  Answer Corporate and auditors’ questions.
  • 15% Coordinate and monitor month-end close to ensure accuracy.  Assist staff in resolving closing issues.  Review plant margin statements and research significant and unusual items.  Assist management (VP/GMs, Area and Plant Managers) with accounting issues relating to their operations. 
  • 20% Supervise Accounting staff.  Properly plan, prioritize and oversee staff’s work to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks.   Build team morale and cooperation.  Diagnose and resolve problems using a sound approach.  Provide ongoing and timely performance feedback, including the annual performance review.  Mentor and coach staff to motivate continuous development and performance improvement.  Proactively transfer knowledge to staff.
  • 15% Review Inventory, AFE, Work Order and ARO to ensure that issues are resolved timely and that the accounting treatment is proper. 
  • 15% Review agreements and memos including research and analysis in accordance with FASB pronouncements and GAAP guidelines. 
  • 15% Manage and perform special projects and streamline various accounting processes and enhance internal controls. 
  • 10% Provide and conduct training to field and support department personnel.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree is required with emphasis in accounting or finance.   A CPA is required.
  • Experience: Four (4) to six (6) years accounting experience required, with manufacturing background preferred.  Two (2) to three (3) years in public accounting and one (1) to two (2) years in private industry preferred.  Three (3) to five (5) years of supervisory experience is required. 
  • License: A Certified Public Accountant is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong accounting knowledge, computer, analytical and problem solving skills are required.  Ability to solve personnel issues, manage multiple tasks, communicate effectively to staff and others regarding accounting issues, and be to analyze, research and document accounting treatment on various complex issues.  Ability to coordinate work and share best practices with other Divisional and Corporate personnel as well as ability to work with a diverse group of employees and senior management.  Ability to work well under pressure.
