Senior Exploration Geophysicist

[C} Walter Hewitt[/C] have been challenged by a fast growing Independent E&P operating company to source a skilled senior explorationist to join their team. This company have grown substantially through both acquisition and the drill bit to become one of the most established names in the North Sea region. Due to a sizeable increase in their operated exploration activities the company are now seeking a capable geologist/geophysicist that can help increase their exploration success.

The successful candidate will join an experienced and capable exploration team based in Stavanger and will work on the company's existing exploration assets and new venture opportunities. The main objective will be to mature prospects from within the company's license portfolio in 2013 and to leverage this information to acquire new acreage and build the business.

Key responsibilities will include:
• Ensuring health, safety, environmental and security of self and others.
• Work with exploration team members in evaluating play fairway analysis, prospect identification, maturation and ranking, and exploration/appraisal well planning.
• Progress evaluation of established exploration themes and recommend new ones in line with corporate strategy.
• Lead and conduct basin analysis reviews of selected areas, creating common risk segment maps and recommending exploration activities in high-graded areas.
• Generate ideas regarding current and future exploration activities within the region.
• Ensure appropriate exploration data is obtained and fully evaluated, using workshops, external experts, peer assists and peer reviews as appropriate.
• Co-ordinate technical evaluations; manage outsourced projects as required and provide quality assurance on geosciences issues.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with JV partners and host governments.
• Mentor and develop junior members of the exploration team
• Continue to develop own expertise and knowledge.

Ideal candidates will have experience of exploring within the North Sea region and have a sound understanding of the UKCS and NCS geology. A working knowledge of the petroleum geology in a variety of tectonic settings around the world, preferably with specific skills in rift basins and frontal fold belts.

They will ideally have a proven record of data room and technical evaluations for farm-ins and be able to search for analogues among geological provinces and with the judgement to identify the best exploration opportunities. Candidates will ideally have a developed knowledge on the Kingdom and Petrel suites but this is not essential.
