Underground Mine Superintendent

Function

  • The position will be responsible for managing underground operations and the activities of an underground mining contractor. Emphasis will be on conducting safe and efficient mine development, stope operations, ventilation, backfilling and related activities. Responsibilities include managing day-t- day activities of ventilation, ground control, backfilling, water pumping, high pressure air systems, electrical distribution and communication systems. Candidate will have primary responsibility for cost and performance control of the underground mining contractor. Must coordinate ore control activities, sorting of ore types and tracking ore stockpile quantities and quality with mine geologist and Sr. Mine Engineer. Ensuring a strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance is a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Mining, Geology or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in underground hard rock mining
  • Minimum of 5 years on site experience in narrow vein mining & back filling
  • Experience in underhand cut and fill stoping methods
  • Strong leadership abilities
  • Capable of utilizing latest computer & software technologies such as Microsoft Office products
  • Supervisory and contract management experience of underground mining contractors
  • Supervisory experience of individuals with technical and non-technical subordinates
