Technical Specialist
Purpose Of Job:
- To administer and support computing network systems and communication systems in Quincy and Marblehead and other facilities as needed, of the[Company] Division.
Dimensions of Job:
- Responsible for administrating computing systems valued at over $800,000. Provide technical support and maintenance of same. Travel not to exceed 25% .
Position Requirements
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide Help Desk Support for Quincy and Marblehead office. This includes answering Help Desk calls and working with end-users on specific computing, network and voice issues. Additional areas of support include support for the other sites as needed. Additional HEM and CPKelco U.S. site support as needed.
- Work with server system administrator in support of servers and applications that are specific to various sites. This will include scheduling and working with sites on server upgrades as well as tape backup functions as well.
- Support the deployment of systems to end-users and work to ensure consistency with approved computer security and software compliance.
- Assist in maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, backup, and replacement activities on the voice and data systems throughout the North America HEM locations. Make programming changes on communications equipment, including voice mail. Repair telephones, modems, and terminals. Instruct users on proper use of communication equipment and systems.
- Assist in IS Help Desk response to user requests relative to networked systems, e-mail, and communication systems. Make decisions on repairs and replacement of failed equipment and systems, and use judgment and experience to evaluate user needs and recommend solutions.
- Document and maintain details of LAN, NT, and e-mail systems. This includes daily procedures, shutdowns, startups, and other needed documentation.
- Coordinate activities with other IS team members in serving the needs of [Company] to maximize customer satisfaction.
Major Challenges:
- To be the in-house expert on Desktop and Laptop systems, assist System Administrators in deployment, troubleshooting and procedural support of servers, Maintain a current knowledge as new technology becomes available. Ensure maximum availability and reliability of these systems.
- Resolve user operational issues, and put in place procedures necessary for reliable and efficient system operation.
- Provide user training as needed on the use of Computing systems, network, and e-mail systems.
- Maintain a current knowledge of networked systems and PCs to provide effective support for end-users.
- Acquire and develop technical skills necessary to support the LAN, Servers, and e-mail systems.
Decision Making Authority:
- Make recommendations for purchases of hardware, software, and service items relating to LANs, NT and e-mail systems.
Specialized Or Technical Knowledge/Skills:
- Technical degree or equivalent experience in the field of computing systems, with a complete knowledge of administrating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing these systems.
