Senior Geologist – Carbonate

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Production Geologist to become a member of Osum’s integrated subsurface team responsible for the geologic understanding of the carbonate reservoirs that are being explored, appraised, and developed.    Specifically, this individual will be the Senior Geologist for the development of the Devonian-aged, bitumen-saturated, Saleski and Liege Grosmont Formation reservoir and will report to the Geoscience Manager.

Responsibilities include:

  • Geologic mapping of the Grosmont, Ireton and Nisku Formations in northern Alberta based on petrophysical logs and core analysis.
  • Plan and execute delineation of the Osum carbonate leases with wells and seismic.
  • Populate existing Petrel 3D geostatistical static models with new well data, new seismic interpretations, and information from the pilot.
  • Conduct technical reviews of the JV pilot and the JV commercial demonstration project, and maintain maps and models of the non-operated projects to understand the results.
  • As a member of the Grosmont Team, develop a field development plan for Osum’s carbonate leases and prepare a commercial application.
  • Support the Sr. Staff Geophysicist in the seismic inversion, seismic fracture analysis, and seismic appraisal of the reservoir.
  • Communicate delineation results and geological interpretations to internal and external groups (ERCB, technical conferences, and board of directors).
  • Assist reservoir engineering team in the design and interpretation of laboratory studies related to the development process in carbonate reservoirs.
  • Support the Geoscience Manager in oilsands exploration and property assessments of carbonate reservoirs.

To be a preferred candidate, you have a Masters or PhD degree in Science with a major in Geology, up to 10 years’ experience in oil & gas Production Geology. 

Additional experience required includes:

  • Experience with core analysis, facies description, and the development of a geologic model for carbonate reservoirs.
  • Experience with in-situ thermal development of bitumen-saturated reservoirs or enhanced oil recovery with water floods.
  • Familiarity with 3D static modeling (Petrel and/or GoCAD).
  • Experience with mapping software (GeoScout and/or Accumap).
  • Ability to work well with integrated teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
