Site Laboratory Technician

Position

The job holder will report to the Manager for Site Laboratory Services and will be responsible for supporting our mobile soil testing laboratories. The role is home based but the job holder will deployed to work on any site as required. This may be onshore (usually outside the UK) or aboard drill ships both in UK and foreign waters.

The job holder will be required to travel to the site investigation location, and set up and maintain laboratory equipment, perform a range of laboratory tests on soil samples, record results and prepare samples for shipment.

All work will be carried out in line with Company procedures, and Health, Safety, Environment and Quality policies. Initial and ongoing training will be provided at our Wallingford facility between site deployments

Key responsibilities are:

• Set up laboratory at start of each offshore project or fully check existing set-up
• Ensure that all laboratory equipment has been received and is in good working order and that all calibration records are to hand
• Maintain and repair equipment as required
• Ensure adequate stocks of consumables are available for the duration of the project
• Submit inventory reports 7 days before project end
• Safe and reliable testing of soil samples
• Accurate and complete recording of data onto record forms, using appropriate methods for correcting recorded data
• Preparation of soil samples for return to the onshore laboratory

Position requirements

Qualifications: Either education to A level or equivalent in at least one science or engineering subject, and relevant experience or a degree or equivalent in geology, science, engineering or related technical discipline is required

Skills: Computer literate. Practical ability to diagnose and repair faulty equipment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
