Project Automation Lead Technician

Description and Desired Qualifications

Our Project Automation Lead Technician career path provides you with the opportunity to lead the CAD design efforts as well as Project Automation for municipal water / wastewater projects. Each day, as you will lead team of design technicians as you work with engineers to create drawings and documents using software tools and resources supporting our client's overall project goals. You should be a well-organized, detail oriented and self-motivated professional with a successful 7 year track record in CAD setup and detailing for water projects utilizing Microstation and /or AutoCAD, InRoads and/ or Civil 3D and Projectwise or similar drawing management database. In addition, you will also have a two year technical degree in Drafting or Engineering Technology and a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each design project.

Our Project Automation Lead Technicians:

  • Provide overall leadership for project drawing production including meeting the project's schedule, budget and quality goals while managing a team of design technicians in multiple locations for a variety of municipal and industrial water/wastewater projects.
  • Serve as the Project Automation Lead; review and develop reference file and drawing workflow strategies, sets up project directories & network drawing management database, i.e., ProjectWise.
  • Oversee and develop the project CAD standards, and monitor the project team's compliance with [Company] or client CAD standards. 
  • Work with engineers, architects, and project managers to determine project specifications.
  • Plan and coordinate work assignments for CAD Technicians, ensuring accountability, high quality and work efficiency.
  • Lead kick-off meeting with technicians and designers to review CAD standards and project-specific information.
  • Mentor junior CAD technicians by sharing industry best practices for CAD design and production.
  • Display strong communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Drive ownership of health & safety in all aspects of project execution, office and personal environments.

Basic Qualifications

  • AA/AS Degree in Drafting or Engineering Technology
  • 7 years’ experience utilizing MicroStation and/or AutoCAD in the design of site civil and/or process mechanical water treatment, wastewater treatment,   water distribution, wastewater collection, and/or storm water management or related industrial settings experience
  • Working knowledge of CAD, database and CAE functionality
  • Knowledge of CAD standards and industry code standards such as NCS, ACI, AWS, ASTM, ANSI, and IBC
  • Requires a basic understanding of materials, specifications, field and construction practices, fabrication, and codes
  • Leadership skills, good oral and written communication required

Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the basic qualifications, we also desire the following preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years’ experience in the design of site civil and/or process mechanical water treatment, wastewater treatment,   water distribution, wastewater collection, and/or storm water management or related industrial settings
  • Proficient with MicroStation 2D/3D and/or AutoCAD 2D/3D, and ProjectWise
  • Ability to perform advanced or complex calculations desired
  • Ability to layout and perform design/drafting of engineering drawings from verbal direction, rough sketches or from scanned backgrounds
