Leading Hand - HD Fitter

CITIC Pacific Mining is developing the Sino Iron Project, a world class, large-scale magnetite iron ore project located at Cape Preston, 100km south west of Karratha in Western Australia. The approximate $5 billion project has a current mine life of 25 years and is the largest magnetite project under construction in Australia, and the first to include large scale downstream processing.

The project involves construction of significant infrastructure including a magnetite concentrator, pellet plant, port facilities, a combined cycle power station, and a large desalination plant.

The Opportunity
CITIC Pacific Mining is currently looking for a Leading Hand to join our HME team based in Cape Preston. This is a permanent role on a 2/1 Roster (days/nights), FIFO from Perth.

The Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the HME Supervisor, you will be responsible for the general supervision of all trades in the HME team. On a daily basis you will be required to:
  • Promote a safe working environment by leading by example and conducting inspections, SWO's, good to go's, etc.
  • Provide assistance to the Maintenance Supervisor and Planner
  • Provide hands on technical assistance to all staff and contractors employed in the workshop and in the field.
  • Provide solutions through designated channels
  • Control the repair times of jobs
  • Provide instruction, assistance, direction and on the job training to all tradespersons, service persons, apprentices, trainees and maintenance personnel in the performance of the duties
  • Maintain legible and accurate records relating to parts, work in progress, maintenance logs, etc.
  • Oversee all parts requisitioning, disposal of unusable parts and classification of reclaimable and reusable parts in relation to repairs.
  • Ensure that workshop tooling is returned to the tool area in a clean, safe and useable condition
  • Initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of machinery non-conformance
  • Assist in the formulation and review of Job Safety Analysis as per HME procedures
  • Participate in safety incident reports and investigations where required
  • Participate in safety and communications meetings

The Requirements
In order to be successful in this role, you will have a good attitude towards safety and sound computer knowledge. We are looking for an excellent communicator who can work well under pressure and has a can-do attitude.
  • Your technical skills will include extensive experience in the mining of heavy earthmoving equipment (Terex/Bucyrus advantageous) and previous Leading Hand experience is preferable.
  • A copy of all current qualifications / licences must be provided at the time of interview
