VOIP Engineer

The Company was first incorporated nearly 30 years ago – it is a rapidly growing mining and metals company currently developing many projects worldwide and operating various mines.

The VoIP Engineer's role is to coordinate strategies for defining, deploying, and maintaining the company's in-house IP telephony voice communication and its associated network connections and component hardware.

Skills / Edu / Exp

• Tertiary Qualification or relevant courses
• A min of 5 yrs exp in as a VoIP engineer or similar exp
• Strong understanding of Cisco, Mitel and networks;
• Good analytical skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate accurate transfer of information in both an upward and downward direction.

Duties / Responsibilities

• Has strong knowledge and can demonstrate experience in Enterprise level Mitel 3300 Infrastructure including controllers, interfaces, modules and phone handsets
• Has good experience with Cisco Unified Communications manager, Call Manager Express and Cisco Unity Connection servers
• Has configured and deployed SIP, H.323 trunks as well PSTN technologies such as ISDN PRI, BRI and gateway configurations in a multinational landscape
• Will be involved in Mitel to Cisco IPT migration and any experience of such migrations will advantageous.
• Can pinpoint and troubleshoot link congestions and call quality issues between differing WAN Sites
• Accountable for all aspects of maintaining, configuring, and troubleshooting the Cisco & Mitel VoIP Systems as instructed by the Communications Manager
• Assists with the design, optimization, implementation and troubleshooting of the Cisco & Mitel Unified Communication Solutions including Call Processing, Voicemail, Voice Gateways infrastructure
• Have good knowledge of Cisco and HP switches including VLANS and Port configurations
• Creates and executes communication project work plans as instructed by the TLT communications manager and provides appropriate feedback to meet any changing needs or requirements
• Identifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities as instructed and accordance with line manager
• Manages the day-to-day operational aspects of any Cisco/Mitel project and scope
• Reviews deliverables and makes sure alignment is in order.
• Effectively applies company methodology and enforces quality IT standards
• Ensures all project “as built” documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately and issued to all those that have the requirement
• Perform telephony audits as instructed by line manager
• Performs other related duties as required and requested
• Assists with conducting testing and development of disaster recovery plans to detect faults, minimize malfunctions, and backup systems
• Maintains local Telephony supplier relationships and contracts
• Takes initiative to provide alternative more cost effective or value adding services
