Chief Geologist Open Pit Copper

Central Africa – Democratic Republic of Congo

We have got two positions available which are fairly the same. It will be an advatage if the candidate has copper belt experience or speaks French.

Our client is a Copper and Cobalt miner in search of a qualified Chief Geologist.

The company is well financed and is positioned to take advantage of strong Cu and Co prices.

• Reporting directly to the Mine Manager, the Chief Geologist is responsible for all mine geology including grade control, structural geology, resource estimation, geotechnical aspects, mapping, reconciliation and resource development drilling. 
• Successful candidates must show demonstrated results in managing geology operations.
• As part of the job description you will also be responsible for overseeing ongoing exploration projects from grass roots level to feasibility stages, as well as assessing various Cu/Co projects within the central African copper belt, reporting directly to the Project Manager.
• Previous experience in developing countries, especially Africa, will be an asset as well as French language skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee production geology at an operating open pit mine
• Management of national and expatriate staff
• Reserve and resource updating and validation, including near mine exploration
• Ore interpretation and modeling
• QA/QC of geological data
• Respect and promote a safe working environment
• Advice mining and processing divisions on resource and geology questions
• Asses the viability of new projects from grass roots level to operating mines
• Manage large scale exploration projects from grass roots level to feasibility stages

Requirements

• Must be familiar with all aspects of geological modeling, database and other grade control software (Surpac, Sable, Recmin)
• Minimum of 3 years experience on the Katanga Copper belt in mining as well as exploration
• Minimum of 3 years experience in a management role within an open pit mining operation and exploration projects
• At least 8 years total experience in exploration, production or consulting
• Previous experience in Africa or other developing countries
• Good English reading and writing skills, especially reporting writing
• Team player able to work within a multi national environment
• Post graduate degree in Geology from a internationally recognized University
