- [Company] . is currently seeking an entry level Geotechnical Engineer for the Irvine, California office. This individual will engage in geotechnical engineering assessments, analyses, and designs. The work will include various aspects of geotechnical engineering, such as shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, liquefaction and other geotechnical hazard evaluations, grading, dams, tunnels, and roads performed for various projects, including mining, transportation, land development, and solid waste projects. Specific analyses may include slope stability, liquefaction potential, allowable bearing capacity, foundation settlement, and design of pile foundations.
The Geotechnical Engineer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform field investigations for geotechnical projects under specific work instructions, including scheduling field work for specific scopes of work provided by senior colleagues, executing the field work, and understanding health and safety issues associated with the work. Field work may include geotechnical drilling and sampling, visual field reconnaissance, and soil and rock logging.
- Perform engineering analyses using hand and computer based tools under senior direction.
- Perform construction observation services under senior direction. This work includes observation and documentation of geotechnical construction activities, performing in-situ density tests of engineered fill, and observation and testing of other geotechnical construction.
- Assist with the preparation of technical reports, including writing sections of reports, preparing figures and tables, and working with drafting and reproduction staff to produce final reports under senior direction.
- Perform other engineering activities as directed.
- Appropriate on-the-job training will be provided.
Job Requirements:
- 0-2 years of experience in civil or geotechnical engineering field;
- Masters degree in civil/geotechnical engineering;
- Strong analytical and communication skills;
- Solid understanding of soil mechanics;
- Ability to work independently in tackling difficult and unusual engineering problems;
- Initiative to understand the purpose of individual tasks and how they relate to overall project objectives;
- The willingness and ability to travel and work in various site conditions and project locations. Travel within the United States and abroad will be necessary for some field assignments and is estimated at 50%;
- Competence in MS Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for presentation of written work;
- Possess a valid US driver's license.
Preferred Skills:
- Working knowledge of geotechnical engineering software and AutoCAD. The expected work will include office-based engineering design and field work.
