- Candidate will be a team oriented individual who must be able to apply knowledge of cartography, GIS technology, geospatial concepts, principles and practices, data collection and maintenance, geospatial data manipulation, data conversion, coordinate conversion, databases, and geospatial analysis to map making and graphical presentation of spatial data on mining related projects and mining industry related geographical information.
- Duties include creating commercial and report quality cartographic maps using ESRI ArcGIS ArcView/ArcInfo including extensions such as 3D-Analyst and Maplex.
- Additional duties include providing GIS spatial data analysis and modeling to internal/external clients; using and managing geodatabases; designing and maintaining a variety of spatial data layers and associated attributes; technical writing for documentation of work procedures; and manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data from many sources and in many formats.
Job Requirements:
- B. S. or M. S. degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) or closely related field (i.e., earth science, engineering, geography, surveying) or completion of certification course in GIS/CAD or related field of study (including course work in mapping, surveying and spatial analysis) and at least 5 years of direct professional experience in GIS techniques and methodologies; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.
- Experience with cartography and earth science GIS, especially geology and mining related data sets.
- Working knowledge of spatial data types, geographic spatial reference systems, geometry, attribution, and metadata.
- Experience with digital imagery and data overlays; working knowledge of QA/QC procedures for map production and spatial data; knowledge of photogrammetric principles and use of photogrammetry.
- Advanced knowledge of ESRI ArcGis applications. Working knowledge of AutoCad mapping and drawing features. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including MS Excel and Access
