The Role:
You will execute head office activities related to the development of mine designs including scheduling, cost estimation and communication to corporate decision makers.
The role includes ensuring the safe and economically sound development of the mine's surface and underground operations. Working as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary project team, you will liaise with other technical specialists who have expertise in geotechnical, infrastructure, hydrogeology and other disciplines.
Tasks:
- Undertake feasibility studies
- Model/design potential mine sites
- Prepare mine plans (for example, tunnels and shafts within underground mines)
- Work with specialist PC software to support planning programs
- Oversee major construction projects and ensure that operations are functioning smoothly
- Establish extraction systems
- Develop Process Flow Diagrams, identifying unit operations required to
- obtain the required product quality in the most economical manner possible
- Define and size equipment and instrumentation to be implemented and issue relevant data sheets
- Check technical quality of calculations, software simulations and deliverables
- Define utilitie requirements and design associated system
- Define quantity and characteristics of effluents
- Implement contractual design philosophy
- Participate in technical bid evaluations for critical items/package, assuring conformity with design requirements
- Oversee health and safety of the site, particularly in relation to issues such as ventilation
- Plan for transitions from surface to underground mining operations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Mining Engineering
- Registered Professional Engineer
- Proven technical skills in of mine design
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task between various projects and tasks
- Willingness to travel
- Knowledge of health and safety issues related to mining
