Design Engineer - Oil Sands Products

The Oil Sands Products Team is seeking engineers to assist in the development and implementation of strategies required to expand the Oil Sands Products portfolio and increase the Oil Sands Products penetration in our markets. The position requires high-level technical contribution, working with minimum supervision, and continually improving standard work and the development processes. The job will require an understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and "software" program development. This position will provide engineering and specifications to develop and release products that meet customer requirements. The core product team is located in Nisku, AB, Canada. The product will be manufactured in various ESCO facilities as well as being sourced from suppliers. This position will report to the Product Manager and will be coached by the Lead Engineer, who provides general project and technical guidance.
Responsibilities:
- Develop relationships with key customers.
- Understand and interpret customer requirements and translate into project and product requirements (timing and product).
- Develop engineering concepts that meet the project requirements.
- Manage technical timeframes and workflow of internal and external resources.
- Utilize standard development processes and standard work.
- Identify and implement opportunities for continuous process improvement.
- Work with manufacturing teams and/or suppliers to ensure products meet quality requirements and are completed on time and on budget.
- Participate in lab testing and field trials.
- Assist in the development of product patents.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- 4 year Engineering Degree (Mechanical Engineering preferred).
- Language skills: Applicants must speak, read, and write English. Some fluency in other languages as well is also preferred.
- Prior experience in design of heavy equipment is preferred but not mandatory.
- Effective communication, problem solving, project management, and organizational skills.
- Understanding of materials and processes (castings, composites, welding, cutting, forming)
- Understanding of open pit mining operations
- Familiarity with Bills of Materials and Manufacturing Routings
- CAD modeling skills (NX preferred).
- Experience with computer based stress analysis (FEA).
- Ability to effectively work in a diverse team.
- High degree of creativity.
- Work independently, managing and measuring workload.
