Electrical / Instrumental Design Engineer

Our client is looking for an e&i Design Engineer with design experience in the Furnace/Mining environment.

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

  • Using modern engineering tools, according to the contract, the safety rules and the time schedule of a project
  • Design conceptual, basic and detailed engineering components, electrical, control and instrumentation systems & related equipment.
  • Manage application software development.
  • Execute of the engineering related to the specific project, ensuring that all the calculations, drawings and technical documents are complete and issued in time, by involving the relevant expertise inside the Company.
  • Ensure the continuous improvement of systems and procedures for operational functions.

REPORTING TO:

  • E & I Manager

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • All the designs to be completed according to the Contract
  • Designs must meet the project specific and company design criteria and standards
  • The design must be operable and maintainable.
  • Ensure that the project schedule is correct and provide accurate progress information into the schedule
  • The design must be delivered according to the time schedule
  • The design must correspond to the safety criteria (Zero Harm).
  • That the design is safe according to the applicable local laws and client safety standards.
  • Promote value engineering.
  • Drive the E&I Design Review meetings.
  • Participate in Project Design Review meetings.
  • The design reviews and decisions must be properly recorded and minutes are to be collected.
  • Keep track of lessons learnt.
  • Actively manages design changes (change management).
  • Ensure that P&IDs are technically correct and signed off for design on schedule.
  • Ensure that the control philosophy is technically correct and signed off for design on schedule.
  • Participate in HAZOP reviews.
  • Ensure that all manuals are technically correct and delivered on time.
  • A quality product is delivered.
  • Give assistance and mentoring to the Junior and Design Engineers.
  • Provide input into marketing / new project studies.
  • Ensure that Data Sheets, Technical Specifications and Operational/Maintenance Manuals are correctly generated by the Design Engineers.
  • Ensure that Erection/Installation Manuals are correctly generated by the Project Engineers.
  • Liaise with Project Managers as necessary.
  • Interface with the client.
Minimum Qualifications/Experience
  • A degree or B-Tech in Electrical / Electronic Engineering
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a design engineering environment

ANY OTHER REQUIREMENT

  • MS Office package skills
  • MS Projects working knowledge
  • E-Plan, Intools or FDES experience
  • Control system experience and/or motor control protection design experience
  • HV/MV design experience would be an advantage
  • Construction and commissioning experience
  • Registration with Ecsa would be an advantage
  • Willingness to travel (local and internationally)
  • Must have a valid drivers licence
