Foreman Mechanical

  • The successful candidate should have a Grade 12/N3 and 5 years post apprenticeship plant maintenance experience.

Minimum Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12/N3;
  • FLMP or equivalent Certificate;
  • Fitter or Boilermaker Trade Certificate (Red Seal);
  • 3 Years' experience as team/project supervisor will serve as an advantage;
  • 5 Years post apprenticeship plant maintenance experience (e.g. crushers, screens, conveyor belts, etc.);
  • Code B/EB drivers licence;

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

  • Sound knowledge of Fitter and Boilermaker technical issues;
  • Interpersonal, Management, Leadership and Communication skills;
  • Basic Financial/Accounting knowledge;
  • Conceptual and pro-active Planning skills;
  • Forecasting skills;
  • Analytical skills

Job Specification

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS INCLUDE, INTER ALIA:

  • Planning, set-up and presenting budget for approval;
  • Monitoring the budget continuously and address variances that may exist;
  • Reconciling the budget and reporting deviations;
  • Evaluating artisan needs, checking order specs and placing orders for section;
  • Ensuring that safety standards are adhered to at all times;
  • Ensuring that all working areas are declared safe at all times;
  • Adhering to all legal requirements by ensuring logbooks for all tools are used and kept;
  • Ensuring that calibration is done as required and certificates kept up to date;
  • Ensuring awareness in team with regards to code of good practice and all company policies and procedures;
  • Ensuring that all business and mining operations adhering and complying with corporate governance, statutory, legal and all other requirements;
  • Adhering to OHS Act and company specific SHERQ policies, procedures and legislation;
  • Managing risk by assessing liabilities, reporting and monitoring standards;
  • Attending to rehabilitation and environmental problems in line with company standards;
  • Accepting responsibility for SHERQ by creating awareness and addressing all unsafe practices;
  • Motivating empower and leading staff through sound performance management and leadership practices;
  • Promoting team work, providing support by creating and maintaining individual development plans;
  • Overseeing all recruitment and HR related activities of reporting staff (e.g. Leave, overtime, absenteeism, etc.);
  • Providing technical advice and support to all artisans and tool handlers;
  • Training artisans on all ad hoc issues (e.g. risk assessment, company policies and procedures, etc.);
  • Ensuring efficient customer service and professional communication when liaising with external and internal customers;
  • Completing inspections as per guidelines from the manufacturing manuals of the various crushers and other equipment;
  • Ensuring that all legal requirements are adhered to at all times with regards to inspections;
  • Ensuring resource planning is done timely and optimally to ensure that all maintenance is addressed;
  • Ensuring good house keeping principles are applied;
  • Ensuring availability of crushers to enable production to be optimised;
  • Facilitating morning meetings to ensure that all relevant information is shared;
  • Determining the most ideal time for maintenance work to be done;
  • Ensuring effective and preventative maintenance management of all plant infrastructure, machines systems and equipment;
  • Coordinating plant shutdowns;
  • Assuming responsibility for coordinating first line maintenance to limit plant or equipment downtime;
  • Driving research and development initiatives to ensure continuous improvement and enhanced performance;
  • Ad hoc, any other reasonable duties as and when requested from time to time.
  • The successful incumbent will be appointed subject to being certified medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act 29/1996 and meeting the requirements of the Company's Code of Practice - Minimum Standards of Fitness to perform work at a Mine.  
  • He/she may also undergo a psychometric assessment.
  • The above mentioned position is C5 on the Patterson grading system. 
  • The successful candidate that conforms to all said requirements and experience will be appointed on this grading. 
  • Should the successful candidate not conform with all said requirements and experience, but is nonetheless regarded as suitable for appointment to the position, he/she will be appointed on a lower more appropriate grading, until successful achievement of required competencies and skills.

Probation Period:

6 months
