Position Description

  • Nuclear Environmental Manager
  • This position is accountable for managing all aspects of the Comanche Peak Non-radiological Environmental Protection Program. The incumbent provides oversight and direction to environmental personnel to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, permits and regulations.  In carrying out these duties, as a minimum, the incumbent must assure implementation and maintenance of programs for monitoring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and perform evaluations of activities prior to initiation to identify any necessary or reasonable measures to mitigate potential environmental impacts or concerns as a result of these activities.

Key Roles & Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned. 
Directly or through others, the incumbent will:

  • Facilitate and champion continuous environmental program improvements and “beyond” compliance philosophy; including, but not limited to, resource conservation, waste minimization through reuse and recycling opportunities, and community environmental outreach.
  • Possess and maintain knowledge of current environmental regulations. This knowledge will aid necessary problem solving skills to address environmental system issues associated with air, water, wastewater and solid waste.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with governmental agencies, vendors and other coalitions to keep abreast of latest technologies, rules and regulations.
  • Subject matter expert for solid waste, wastewater, air, and surface water quality.
  • Possess suitable communications skills to effectively convey site environmental aspects to site personnel, as well as members of the public.
  • Strive to maintain a high level site environmental image and interface with various public entities to convey the station’s value toward this image.

Job Requirements:
Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

  • College (Bachelors) and/or experience equivalent to 10-12 years in life sciences, geology, engineering or equivalent; thorough knowledge of system operations and  Comanche Peak  practices, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in engineering and design modification processes.
  • Experienced in formulating, tracking and maintaining program budgets.
  • Experienced in formulating and coordinating technical services contracts.
  • Experienced in interpretation of environmental rules and regulations ensure program development and compliance with these rules and regulations.
  • The incumbent must possess the ability to negotiate with regulatory agencies making sound and honest judgments.
  • The incumbent must be able to manage multiple projects at the same time setting priorities to achieve deadlines.
