Development Geophysicist

The post holder will be employed in the capacity of Geophysicist at the [Company] office based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. The purpose of the role is to undertake petroleum geoscience studies within the Petroleum Reservoir & Economics Group in Wallingford.

The post holder will be required to work on all data types and processes utilised within the Petroleum Reservoir field, which will include analysis, modelling and interpretation. Work will include a wide range of tasks from basic interpretation and mapping to attribute analysis, AVO studies and inversion. Experience of using geostatistical techniques in reservoir modelling projects is an advantage. The post holder will form an important part of a multi-disciplinary team.

KEY TASKS:
• To be part of a proactive team of staff responsible for delivering a high quality customer-focused professional service.
• Work in accordance with Quality, Security and Health and Safety processes.
• Work on projects ranging from data room evaluations to detailed field mapping combined with reservoir modelling using seismic attributes to estimate rock properties.
• Data loading and management (seismic and well)
• Mapping and depth conversion
• Prospect analysis and integration of interpretations with petroleum systems
• Seismic attribute analysis, linking attributes to rock properties and geological settings
• AVO modelling, interpretation and analysis
• Seismic Inversion
• To assist in undertaking for clients as required the analysis of geophysical & geological description & mapping, well log & seismic interpretation, exploration petroleum systems, reservoir management and PIIP volumetric estimations.
• To assist with field development planning & reservoir studies.
• To assist in petroleum reserves evaluations, audits and certifications.
• Preparation of reports and presentation of technical work to clients.

GENERAL TASKS:
• Update and improve skills and knowledge base.
• To attend Training and Development courses/workshops as deemed necessary.
• To support and undertake such other functions and responsibilities as are required from time to time and where it is deemed relevant and advantageous to the operations.
• Provide administrative support to the Manager of the group in the preparation and delivery of major promotional projects, assist in the production and submission of commercial work submissions in the form of tenders and submissions.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

• A Geosciences Degree
• MSc or PhD in Petroleum Geosciences
• Experience of Microsoft packages e.g. word, excel, database & industry software

EXPERIENCE OF:
• Substantial experience of working in an Oil Company or Oil Consultancy firm
• Experience in analysis of geophysics, structural geology, petrophysics and petroleum geology, exploration petroleum systems, development and production reservoir management, and PIIP volumetric estimations
• Experience of 2D-3D seismic interpretation and mapping, Time-Depth Conversion, Velocity Modelling, Structural Balancing and Basin Modelling, using Industry software e.g. Kingdom, Petrel.
• Oil & gas production and development studies
• Project work contributing to a multi-disciplined integrated project team
• International upstream petroleum reserves evaluations

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Ability to establish and maintain a high quality, professional relationship with clients and other employees
• Good Organisational Skills and Interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate to an effective level in English reporting and presentations
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products including Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
