Material Handler
Job Summary
- Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the Material Handler must maintain levels of all material bins (clinker bins, slag, sand, coal, limestone, clinker, hopper to tower, gyp and other materials) as needed.
Essential Functions
- Keep clinker in barn separated and contained
- Check all equipment in work area
- Load and weigh outside cement and dust trucks and use computer in the distribution department
- Keep all materials (coal, clinker and other materials) full
- Unplug feeder and hoppers and clear sticking gate when needed
- Maintain clinker bin and fuel unloading area. Make sure it stays clean
- Handle problems as they arise
- Assist with kiln repairs during shutdowns
- Unload materials (coal, coke, liquid fuels and other materials) that arrive to the plant by rail or truck
- Perform other duties and special projects as required
Minimum Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Must have minimum of six months experience in plant operations
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and understand equipment parts and assembly manuals (schematics as needed)
- Ability to operate and service the front end loader, must be able to read and understand operator’s manual
- Ability to perform basic math functions
- Must have a basic understanding of the plant operations
- Must have excellent work and safety record
- Must understand lock-out procedure and safety requirements
Physical Requirements
- Climb up to 60 feet above ground on ladders and catwalks
- Stooping, bending, kneeling a minimum of 25 times per day
- Lift 75 lbs. three times per day, floor to waist level
- Walk/stand on uneven ground, walkways and catwalks throughout the work day
- Climb ladders, steps and inclined walks minimum of 2 hours per day
- Carry 50 lbs. minimum of 50 feet, 5 times per day
- Ability to lift and push 100 lbs.
- Communicate in person or by radio minimum of 2 hours per day
- Able to reason through difficult operations problems, resolve said problems and/or relate same to others
- Ability to run jackhammer, bobcat, shovel and wheelbarrow; lance and hand tools
- Capability of working for long periods of time in extreme heat and in dusty areas, confined spaces and heights
- Must work rotating shift
- Ability to handle steel, machine parts and tools weighing up to 80 lbs. and assist others with this work
- Ability to climb stairs and work at heights (350’ and up)
Working Conditions
- Must work outside in all weather conditions: heat, cold, dust, and wet a minimum of 8 hrs.per day. Work in high noise level areas while wearing proper PPE.
