Safety Specialist/Trainer

Job Description

  • We are seeking a Safety Specialist/Trainer for our corporate headquarters located in Phoenix, Arizona. This is a newly created position that will join our high performing Risk Management team. The successful candidate will travel to various SWCA offices to audit safety and compliance processes and procedures in accordance to company standards. Results from each visit will be documented and analyzed to help improve SWCA’s safety program. In addition, this role will provide technical guidance on safety regulations and conduct a wide range of hands-on safety training. This is a full-time, salaried position reporting to the Director of Finance/Risk Management. Pay will be based on individual qualifications and experience.

Required Skills

  • Safety Training – conduct on-site training to [Company] staff members on various safety topics;
  • Field Site Audits – inspect project field locations to observe and assist field staff and supervisors with safety procedures; collect feedback from field employees and ensure full compliance;
  • Facility Safety Audits – perform facility audits/inspections with office leaders and office safety representatives (OSRs) to record and address any potential hazards in the office environment;
  • Safety Program Audits – work closely with the local OSRs to ensure all safety program processes are compliant with regulatory requirements as well as consistent and current (i.e., Incident Reports, etc.) with established [Company] policies and procedures;
  • Documentation – prepare post-audit statistical reports for management and provide strategies for program enhancements;
  • Work closely with the Safety Manager and Safety Coordinator to identify safety deficiencies, best practices, and areas for continuous improvement;
  • Work closely with all levels of staff to promote [Company] business interests in adherence to its Mission, Vision, and Values; and,
  • Other safety-related and administrative duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in safety, training, or related field is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in environmental health and safety compliance.
  • Previous OSHA related training such as 10- or 30-hour training in construction, general industry, or equivalent environment.
  • Other safety related training and/or experience preferred.
  • Certified instructor in First Aid/CPR training a plus.
  • Demonstrated skills for working safely in a variety of outdoor environments under potentially harsh conditions including inclement weather.
  • Travel requirements could be up to 75%.
  • Strong collaboration and team-based approach.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work load and maintain flexibility.
  • High work standards and attention to detail.
  • Excellent follow up and communication skills.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently.
