Staff Environmental Scientist

[Company] seeks a quantitative Environmental Scientist/Modeler to join our Risk Assessment and Ecological Sciences group in Syracuse, NY. The successful candidate will support senior scientists on quantitative assessments in the areas of agrochemical fate and transport and hazardous waste site remediation.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Fate and transport modeling (primarily agrochemicals) in the US, Canada, and Europe
  • Dissipation kinetics assessments for agrochemicals in the US, Canada, and Europe
  • Analysis of spatial data using ArcGIS
  • Review, development, and testing of innovative quantitative tools and solutions
  • Statistical analysis of scientific data, including hypothesis testing, time-series analysis, background assessments, etc.
  • Population modeling support to senior ecologists
  • Review and evaluation of regulatory guidance and open literature
  • Technical report writing
  • Scheduling to complete multiple commitments within fixed time and budget requirements
  • Ability to work independently (with minimum supervision)
  • Desire to work on interdisciplinary project teams with individuals at all grade levels throughout the US and Europe
  • Development and presentation of papers at scientific conferences and technical exchanges/seminars
  • Participation in meetings with project managers, clients, and regulators
  • Special considerations, specific technical experience, skills, etc.: fate and transport modeling of agrochemicals (PRZM, EXAMS, LEACHP, BASINS, SWAT, SWMM), dissipation kinetics following FOCUS guidelines, demonstrated proficiency with quantitative software (MS Excel/Access, ArcGIS, SYSTAT, R, SigmaPlot, SAS, or similar), superior written and oral communication skills, computer programming (e.g., Visual Basic, C, Fortran) is a plus.

Basic and Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum years of experience: 5
  • Education required: BS in Soil/Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Hydrology, or related science
  • Skills required: Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills, Proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Access, ArcGIS, Basic Statistical Software Packages

Additional and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education preferred: MS/PhD in Soil/Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Hydrology, or related science
  • 5-8 Years’ experience preferred:

Skills preferred:

  • Fate and Transport Modeling, Experience with EPA and PMRA Models, Database Development, Advanced Statistical Analysis, Computer Programming (e.g., VBA, SQL, R, C++)
  • This position does requires travel. Travel amount is negligible.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record is required for this position.
  • This position does not manage others.
