My client has just acquired some interesting coal projects in Kyrgyzstan and they are currently looking for another geologist OR exploration manager to join the team. This would be a FIFO position from your country of origin and could be contract or permanent depending on your preference.
Dependent on your experience, as the Exploration Manager you would be picking things up right from the start and will commence designing the drill programs and working towards adding new projects to the portfolio. A large focus for the business is in building a significant resource base in-country through acquisition and the development of current resources. Long term, this is a company looking to produce and sell so your role would evolve into the development of the mining side and customer base.
If you are not yet at Exploration Manager level, the (Senior) geologist would be supervising the rig over a couple month period and overseeing the project and the field geologists (mostly in-country nationals with good geology knowledge and English language skills). Although not physically alone, you would be taking this on with direction from your manager in Australia and solely responsible for ensuring that things run smoothly. Under these conditions, you will need to be capable of working with minimal supervision. This position would suit someone who enjoys and has done some significant travel and enjoys new cultures and working in the field.
You will need to be familiar with both RC and Diamond drill rigs, diamond core and some coal experience would be great. The drilling seasons would affect your time on site and you will be flexible enough to stay on as needed if the rig was moving on or something of that nature to ensure the job gets done.
For both of these roles, Coal experience is preferred but not essential and any experience in the former soviet union would trump coal experience.
The job itself is in a fairly remote area and you will be based in a reasonably established town, more than likely sleeping in a hotel and you will fly in and out of the exploration zone by chopper. All meals will be taken care of between the hotel, the town and the camp while you are away from home.
Why jump at this opportunity?
This is a rebirth company enabling you to get in on the ground floor with an ambitious and growing junior. You will be involved in setting up the scenarios (exploration manager) and join a strong corporate team environment which may open doors down the track to a technical director position.
Whatever role appeals to you, this is a great opportunity to get in-country and a great experience both from an international and exploration perspective.
There would be a 3 month probationary period to ensure that you are happy in the role.
Salary will depend on your experience and the level of the role. At the moment the package would include Base + Super (+ shares + milestone based incentives for the exploration manager).
