Plant Human Resources Manager

Description:

  • [Company] is a leading producer of industrial minerals, including sand proppants, whole grain silica, ground silica, fine ground silica, calcined kaolin clay and aplite clay. In addition to offering over 200 products in this category, [Company] also operates as a research and development specialist for customized products and solutions utilizing the same raw materials. The wide variety of industries and applications served by [Company] includes oil and gas, glass, chemicals, foundry, building products, fillers and extenders, recreation, industrial filtration and treatment, and testing and analysis. The company operates on a platform of ethics, safety and sustainability.
  • The Plant Human Resources Manager will be reporting directly to the Regional Human Resources Manager. This position will provide direction and leadership in all functional areas including employment, training and development, employee relations, labor relations, compliance, benefits, compensation, and performance management. The HR Manager will also provide interpretive advice on company policies and government policies while monitor and maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, department budgets, and company policies and procedures. This position will also be required to advise managers on human resources policies and procedures as needed.
  • The Plant HR Manager will work with all levels of the plant and corporate organization and will need to work before internal and external groups. This position will require travel to Company locations, professional conferences, and other industry meetings.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Determine flexible solutions to meet the needs of the plant while maintaining policy requirements
  • Act as a single point of contact to advise and counsel all levels of management on day-to-day Human Resources issues
  • Responsible for working with managers and employees in coordinating employee and labor relations efforts including supporting labor negotiations
  • Support, advise, and counsel on leadership development and strategic workforce planning initiatives
  • Provide recruiting and staffing support for assigned plant
  • Support the goals of the Company’s Affirmative Action Plans for assigned business units
  • Perform various projects and other Human Resources employee-related activities, as required
  • Consult with management on employee performance, employee conduct, and general employee and labor relations issues to ensure that Company expectations are being met, while maintaining open communication between employees and management
  • Provide guidance relative to the progressive discipline process and escalate as appropriate up to and including the coordination of involuntary employee separation; ensure that a balanced but consistent approach is taken in the application of discipline.
  • Advise and assist line and staff units of the Company in the interpretation and application of human resources policies and programs; provide guidance to ensure uniform and consistent applications of discipline for policy and work rules violations
  • Maintain knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures, laws and regulations, industry trends and developments to ensure accurate information is being communicated throughout the company
  • Assist with special projects as requested
  • Participate and represent the corporation in civic, industry, and professional organizations
  • Manage all aspects of creating job fairs when appropriate

  • Maintain strong working relationships within Human Resources Department, Plant
  • Departments, and corporate functions
  • Maintain supportive and respectful working relationships with all U.S. Silica Employees and departments
  • Maintain professional relationship with all vendors, customers, and site visitors such as investors, Board of Directors, and corporate staff

Qualifications - Experience and Education

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, or other related field
  • Must have a minimum of five years of general Human Resources experience with primary emphasis on employee and labor relations in a union environment
  • Related HR experience in benefits, staffing, compensation, or training and development preferred
  • Strong operations background preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing required
  • Experience working with multiple locations preferred

Other Qualifications - Knowledge

  • Knowledge of principles/methods in employee/labor relations, basic compensation, staffing/recruiting, safety, and training and development

  • Ability to build relationships, recruit candidates, and make selection decisions
  • Ability to inform, educate, and influence employees to support corporate goals and initiatives
  • Expertise in Human Resources policies, procedures, and employment law
  • Ability to evaluate, analyze, and quantify the financial impact of the issues involved
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Utilize technology in the areas of recruitment and applicant tracking
  • Interpret and communicate employment laws
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of business, employee, and applicant information
  • Experience working with multiple locations preferred
  • Must possess strong management skills; demonstrate flexibility and ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Must be able to interpret complex regulations and laws
  • Highly developed interviewing/behavioral assessment technique
  • Creative sourcing for internal and external job applicants
  • Ability to travel to other US Silica locations ( <10% )
  • PHR/SPHR certification desirable
