Job Summary

  • For assigned Dry Cooling projects, this position is responsible for providing on-site technical assistance and advice to the client, as well as being the key point of contact for SPX Project Managers during construction.  Other key responsibilities include identifying material supply non-conformances and working with the client or the client’s erection contractor to rectify the non-conformance. The incumbent is expected to report all site requirements to design engineers and assist in product improvement developments with specific input on constructability.  Additional responsibilities include advising the client on cold and hot commissioning and the plant start-up function, ensuring compliance to, and understanding of, all Dry Cooling technical specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the client on all technical and constructability topics relating to SPX supplied materials and documents; prepare and distribute project specific site construction memos to the client or their erector
  • Ensure proper implementation of, and compliance with, relevant Dry Cooling site procedures and practices
  • Ensure that relevant parties are informed of, and comply with, Dry Cooling Erection Manual and Erection Inspection Plan
  • Assist the client with material receiving, part identification, storage and handling requirements and reporting of any OS&D’s (Overages, Shortages and Damage)
  • Communicate with erection contractor, client, suppliers, project manager, construction manager, commissioning manager, etc. regarding site-related matters and insure timely response to and documentation of RFI’s (Request for Information)
  • Investigate and document any claims received from the erection contractor, report such claims to the Construction Manager and Project Manager, and, if required, negotiate resolution of the claims
  • Perform scheduled and routine site inspections and produce reports on such as required
  • Generate and distribute a Weekly Site Report to the client, project manager and construction manager
  • Advise the client and the erection contractor regarding compliance with the required and documented standards of health and safety, welfare, environmental control, and quality assurance
  • If required, assist in cold and hot commissioning and plant start-up functions; ensure accuracy and completeness of all related documentation
  • Participate in the project engineering function by maintaining a proactive exchange of project engineering information between project engineers and engineering disciplines
  • Provide support to project manager, as well as engineers and other project team members as requested
  • Responsible for maintaining an extra work log that details all work that is done at extra cost and presented weekly to project manager
  • Sends NCR’s to vendors when issue arises with supplied materials
  • Assigned to projects in North and South American locations, with occasional sites in other continents and is normally in temporary residence at those locations
  • Provide detailed construction advice during bid proposal conferences and constructability meetings

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; college degree in a technical field preferred
  • 5-10 years of relevant site supervision experience
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Thorough understanding of engineering and project management functions as they relate to Dry Cooling products
  • Strong knowledge of all relevant safety codes
  • Skill in understanding drawings such as P & ID’s, structural steel drawings, piping drawings, ducting drawings and equipment drawings
