Business Unit Description
- [Company] is a leading manufacturer of flight safety and close tolerance parts and assemblies for both commercial and military markets. We supply critical safety parts and structural components for both rotary and fixed wing aircraft. Our FENN Division provides design and engineering capabilities for metal forming machines, shaping tools and related equipment. [Company] comprises three facilities totaling 250,000 square feet. Company operations are based in Newington, CT and Long Island, NY.
Accountability:
- This position consists of the analysis of operations and the development of procedures and processes to be used by various groups such as production, overhaul, repair, test, and quality
- Under general guidance of supervisor, perform various engineering duties requiring the exercise of judgment and application of standard engineering principles and practices. Pursue initiatives to improve effectiveness of the group and increase customer satisfaction.
Typical duties/responsibilities for engineering may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepare specifications and related documents in accordance with requirements, established formats and general instructions. Review and analyze a variety of engineering data, documents and reports.
- Consult with other engineering groups to ensure that specified engineering criteria are suitable for the proposed application, and recommend revisions, as appropriate.
- Manage New Product Introduction (NPI) for specific product including process creation/development through delivery.
- Participate in the investigation of technical problems and the establishment of procedures and corrective actions to avoid recurrences.
- Participate in, and assist all shop floor associates, Quality Engineers, Cell Associates, and others involved in a variety of shop floor fabrication matters.
- Previous experience with Frozen Planning and manufacturing flight critical components a plus.
- Activity participate, recommend, and initiate improvement in EH&S practices and procedures
- Review and analyze a variety of engineering data, documents and reports. Perform various engineering tasks involving such functions as analysis, design, development, test, installation and service, while working from instructions, drawings, proposals, specifications, and other pertinent information.
Complexity of Tasks:
- Requires strong verbal and written communication skills along with advanced interpersonal skills. Strong project management skills are essential. Must be able to collaborate with other departments and functions in achieving project goals. Use available resources to support customer needs and expectations on both a national and international level.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field. Alternatively, a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.
- 5 – 10 yrs. experience in Manufacturing; aerospace preferred
- Experience with milling, turning, grinding; experience with CNC programming a plus (NX 7.5)
- Experience with NPI development and implementation
- Experience working with various metals; aluminum, titanium, etc.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Key Creator a must
- Must be able to read drawings, blue prints, and GD&T symbols
