We have an immediate opening for a Test Engineer – Building Products & Systems at our Research & Development facility in Buffalo, NY reporting to the Director of Laboratory Facilities & Testing Services.

Job Summary:

• This position is an entry-level position designed to build knowledge of the Company’s operations and products, and in evaluating products and systems. It provides technical support for testing services to commercial clients and for [Company] through [Company] Testing Services.  The incumbent will assist primarily in fire testing activities but will also assist in acoustical testing, and provide technical services in these same testing areas.  The position also requires the development of a working knowledge of standard designs, such as those published by UL and others, and construction technologies. 

Major Job Responsibilities (not all inclusive):

• Assist the Test Engineers in responding to prospective client enquiries received by phone or email by providing cost, technical and test capability information.
• Assist the Test Engineers in working with clients to coordinate their test projects including determining all requirements and establishing timeframes. Contribute in efforts to insure plans are followed and projects are completed within the agreed time schedule.
• Assist the Test Engineers in the conductance of fire testing of products and assemblies, record test data and observations, analyze results and disseminate results to client. Prepare and issue formal fire test reports.
• Develop extensive knowledge of standard designs such as those published by UL and other organizations, and provide interpretations of same.
• Assist in providing technical support to internal customers such as [Company] 1-800 Group, Marketing, TIC and other business units including analyzing [Company] sponsored fire test results and proposing fire test assembly improvements
• Complete test project costing and issue quotations to clients based on the laboratories established cost guidelines.   Assist in drafting Standard Service Agreements
• Assist in the conductance of acoustical test procedures & operate acoustical testing instrumentation
• Participate in planning and implementing all marketing efforts to expand testing business.
• Monitoring test fees, man hours and material costs involved in fire test projects and assist in drafting monthly invoices outlining the same.

Qualifications:

• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Engineering, Science, Construction Technology or related areas.
• Minimum three years’ experience in testing preferably in the fire science areas.
• Good communication skills both written and verbal.
• Exhibited ability to handle multiple projects.
• Knowledge of Excel, knowledge of Lab View and other computer skills a plus.
• Detailed oriented.
• Report writing experience.
• Wide range of knowledge of construction technology and materials. Knowledge of acoustics, fire, structural theories a plus.
• Must be able to lift up to 60#.
• Must be able to stand up to 8 hours per day.
