Safety Specialist

Position Description

• [Company] is looking for a Safety Specialist for the Wenatchee Works smelter in Malaga, Washington.

The Safety Specialist position is responsible for:

• Assisting in the development and implementation of an effective safety management system designed to ensure the plant is in compliance with all [Company], State, and Federal health and safety regulations.
• Establishing and promoting a safe, incident free, and healthy work environment.
• The incumbent enforces various [Company] and plant policies and application of a collective bargaining agreement in areas under his/her span of control. This position reports to the Safety and Health Manager.
• Please Note That This Position Could Be A Job Grade 14 Or 15 Depending Upon Experience Level.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene or Occupational Health & Safety OR the equivalent of five years’ experience working in a safety, health or plant protection role.

Preferred Qualifications          

• Minimum 1 year intern or co-op experience in a Health and Safety role
• Experience in a heavy manufacturing or minerals processing industry considered desirable
• Demonstrated understanding and application of environmental, health and safety programs
• Capable of handling many concurrent projects independently
• Well developed interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills
• Sound business and customer focus and perspective
• CSP preferred
